Agree on all points, you do wonder how long the danica charade will continue before someone goes "actually, we can do better". I guess it'll be when the bucks stop rolling in.
Until Hinch starts winning a few in Indycar perhaps? Ok, he's not marketable in the same way (to be polite), but he's very web and media savvy and I reckon the fans would take to him in a second if he ever went to NASCAR. As for Busch...he can be an idiot, but there is something oddly refreshing about him. He comes across as heart on sleeve old school NASCAR in a way. The media getting in his face won't help, but then that's them trying to get a reaction so they can be shocked about it.

Due to him continuing to act like a prick Kurt Busch has been suspended from next weeks race and his probation extended until December.

Eldora is owned by Stewart.

Seems Danica doesn't know quite alot of stuff, shes often heard on the radio asking pretty simple questions. Before Darlington cup race someone pointed out that the race as longer than the nationwide race that she'd just run, slightly ditsy she then asks the interview "are all cup races 500 miles?" erm ? really ?!

Danica and the gang are going dirt racing here. Sounds like some of the proceeds go to charity, putting her media attraction to good use. I'm a bit surprised by her not knowing about lift-off oversteer, maybe just something lost in translation?
I'd have thought having an event run by the reigning Cup champion was more than enough media coverage to be honest, but what do I know. Having seen the gawdy Go-Daddy liveried car she's running, the cynic in me suggests this is just a way of keeping her profile high after a less than stellar season, as I think a lot of the media outlets are now starting to get a little bit bored with her. As for the event, given her known inability to deal with a loose car, God alone knows how she's going to cope in a dirt modified.

To answer my own question, she ended up 15th, eight places behind Cruz Pedregon, a man who drives in a straight line for a living.

Personally I think the car livery looked ace! Ok the hype is a bit much and she's not as racey as some of the guys at the front, but she's normally running in the top 15 in Nationwide races so she's earned her place?
Average start thus far is 15th with an average finish of 21st, which isn't exactly stellar given the number of start and parks in that series. She's not dreadful, but nowhere near as good as her press suggests. That car should be further forward, given the resources, and those stats don't scream "should be in Cup!" to me. The hype just wears thin after a while.

Contrast princess with Nelson Piquet Jr who got in to trucks and has spent time learning how to drive the cars and he's turned into a decent racer. He's turned down full time nationwide seats until he feels comfortable..

At some point the bucks will run out and the team/sponsors are gonna go "yeah, umm we can do better here".

How Trevor Bayne still isn't in cup full time I don't understand. Seems Stenhouse may get a seat next year from what I read.

BTW Finch had this to say about Kurt:

"Here's the deal: Quit wrecking the cars, get a good finish, be nice to people, that's not real hard to do," said Finch. "It's affecting me. If I can't get a sponsor, I can't keep running without a sponsor. That's a slow death. I don't want to do that."

"Hopefully if we can get Kurt's mind right, we can win some races. If we can't get his mind right so we can race into the future, then I'll go do something else. It's just that simple. I'm doing my part.

"We've wrecked 14 cars this year. Four at Daytona. We've killed three or four cars and had to completely throw them away."

Split schedule this weekend, Trucks are in Texas, Nationwide have a weekend off, Cup is in Pennsylvania at Pocono.

As mentioned earlier, Kurt Busch is parked this weekend.
There were concerns about speeds at Pocono as its been resurfaced, some even suggested they might end up using restrictor plates. In the end speeds in testing were deemed acceptable at 180mph (lap), with peaks of 212mph on entry to turn 1.

Truck race starts at 1:30am Saturday morning.

Cup race will start at 6:19pm our time on Sunday. Biffle fastest in practice so far.

Been dipping in and out of the Pocono race using Race Buddy on the NASCAR site. Good stuff! Not sure if that's always been available or if it was just free for this race? Pocono certainly looks different with the new surface.

Pocono just doesn't look right with stock cars going around it. Not surprising as it was originally designed for AOWR...

Still, being that it's flat the racing will always be more interesting than the cookie cutters!

It's certainly a weird looking track, that's for sure. Reminds me of the Rio "roval" from the CART days. No idea if the track ownership politics would allow it, but would be interesting to see the Indycars there in some capacity. Has an infield course, so could maybe do half and half a la Daytona 24 hours, or perhaps a double header with two shorter races on each layout.

Some races, more usually Nationwide, and in the last couple of years it has been restricted to people with US IP addresses.

The show has moved on to Michigan this weekend, no trucks so NNS and Cup.

The track has been repaved and its upped speeds, they're topping 200mph and averages are just a whisker under.

Nationwide race is on Motors TV live at 9:30pm Saturday.
Cup race will start 6:19pm Sunday.

Looks like tandem drafting might be on the cards here!!
The new surface and new tyres have made the cars much more stable at 200mph.

Cup News: NASCAR has decided to change the left side tire compund for a harder one. This means there will be an extra practice session after the NNS race tonight. They say its to improve the race, but I reckon its more likely they are concerned about speeds, we have seen up to 204mph in practice and even the NNS cars are over 190. There was also some talk about the tires blistering being a reason for the change, but it doesn't seem its a major issue.

This gives us a rather odd situation where they will qualify on the existing tires and then race on different tires.
Should be fun smile

Sound quality is abysmal on Motors today, somewhere along the line someone has turned the gain up to 11 and it's massively clipped.

Glad it's not just me. Dipping in and out of Le Mans on Eurosport (who can't seem to provide sound which doesn't crackle and pop through the rear speakers) and Motors TV who seem to transmit the sound down a telephone first. It's almost enough to drive a man to cricket coverage hehe
