So with the 500 almost upon us what are everyones thoughts for this year ?

If you haven't been keeping track there have been several firings, signings and hirings, check out the jayski chart here: http://www.jayski.com/pages/2012teams.htm

Qualifying is already done, positions are here: http://www.jayski.com/news/stats/2012/story/_/page...

Edwards starting off strong, good run for Bayne, can he make in two in a row ?
EGR cars still well down.

I can't wait for the season to get started!.

The first Daytona duel has just finished Tony Stewart won, Danica Patrick had a huge shunt.

Thankfully there was a safer barrier on the inside, I doubt she'd be quite as lucky if it was still one of the old concrete walls there.

Was never a fan of the Danica hype machine in Indycar, and I'm likewise already sick of it in NASCAR, but glad to see her get out of that. Great advertisement for the SAFER system, as that was one of the hardest hits I can recall for a while.

Trucks tomorrow, and I believe Piquet Jr is racing. Promises to be manic.

Last weekend we had the Bud Shootout event to get everyone ready for Daytona this coming weekend, a few decent shunts in it due to the changes to aero etc that come in this year. Every shunt was down to the guys attempting to pair up like normal, but if they touched the rear left of the car it would just throw it sideways, which they attributed to the smaller rear spoiler not giving so much downforce on the rear.

As the 2 part sprint race wore on, the guys learned to push dead centre on the rear or right side, as the camber the cars run didn't allow it to get spun so easily then. Definitely a lot learned during the pre-event of the season...

ETA - Also the other big difference was when the guys would run in pack formation, if they went three wide in the pack, the aero effect was making it impossible for the middle row to stay at the same pace as the lower and upper row, which made for a lot of lead changes through the race.

Motors TV don't show Sprint Cup, only Nationwide. Sky Sports show a highlight of the race a few days later.

I don't think that crash was her fault though.
Although the media go over the top, I like to see the girls mixing it in racing with the boys. Forza vagina!

True enough, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The hype is still a bugbear though, especially given she's had to buy the grid slot. Meanwhile you have guys like Ricky Carmichael and Travis Pastrana (even Piquet Jr), who are doing it the right way (ARCA, K&N, CWTS etc), yet are left fighting for scraps. Nothing wrong with the girls mixing it up, but let them do it on merit. You only have to look at how genuinely pleased everyone in Indycar was when Ed Carpenter won for Sarah Fisher last year. Fisher never needed to get her baps out to run her team, she's done it properly and people respect her for that. Danica feels more like a marketing exercise than a racing driver and it grates rather.

nationwide is a stepping stone to sprint cup. Cars are slightly different and they run a different schedule. Still good to watch.

If you want to watch sprint cup you may have a friend called justin that can help..

Justin is ok i guess but if you want to know even more about Nascar a good source is Brian Sweet known as "besweeet" on twitter. He posts some good info and links for every single race. Very informative.
