Lvereage behind the scenes. Yesterday's revelations showed how much influence the Murdochs have been trying to exercise.

It's been all over the news.

There is also an enquiry now into his purchase of The Times back in 1981 - which is looking increasingly that it was actually ilegal.

You mean the stuff about political favors going back to the 80's? What does that have to do with the BBC moving up north?

How many times can a thread about a specific F1 race turn into a policital tosh fest. There is a Lounge for general chat.

It's the Wednesday after the race. The race has been discussed to death now, or do you have something fresh to add to the discussion?

Why would Sky want BC news/Sport to move to Salford ?

That was imposed by the previous government. One of the reasons is they save money by selling property in London and then don't have to pay maintenance on them.
The other was to diversify, so that they produce media/TV etc outside of London.

If you want to get really mad about it go check up the cost increase for covering Wimbledon - renting property, drivers& cars to ferry people bac and forth, hotel rooms etc etc. I saw a estimate of > £3m a while back.

They didn't - they were simply the beneficiaries of a move by Labour to buy votes that cost the BBC around a £billion - more than enough to have seen them to the end of their F1 contract at least.

The absurdity of this is incredible. The year the biggest and most prestigious sporting event in the world comes to London when everybody who is anybody is in town and BBC Sport is sat 250 miles north......or paying a shed load of money to many people to relocate temporarily, back south who just a year ago had moved north.

The only organisation to benefit (apart from Sky) is Virgin Trains.

Nice being able to watch GP2 practice and race today. Stands are packed, not a single seat spare

That is true, but long term the BBC are better in the middle of the UK. The Olymics will be over by mid-July, and if the UK gets it again it won't be 1) In the next few decades or 2) In London.........

They are the broadcaster of news, sport and entertainment to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales as well as England, and really need to be centrally based.

It also brings some wealth and investment to an area outside of London, as Manchester has a strong creative industry that will benefit from this move.

Nail on the head, some people think that the U.K doesn't exist outside the M25!

2 good races - but these Pirelli tyres are a joke. Same rubber as in F1 ( assume slightly different compounds) but it's all about preserving you tires. ie - drive at 85% and wait for everyone else tyres to fall off the cliff.
