If indeed it does get cancelled this year, as is looking more likely as the days roll on, would it not make more sense to enter negotiations with either Dubai Autodrome or Losail to have a race? Given the situation in Dubai & Qatar seems to be more stable than elsewhere in the region, that would allow them to continue to hold a Middle Eastern race. Or am I being too rational?
Yes.They couldn't do it.
The organisers need at least 3 months to put up the extra seating, barriers, rolls of sight restricting fencing... Oh and don't forget the other secondary layer of barriers and fencing and restricted areas where only the super rich can enter and risk seeing a racing driver close up.
The cash counting machines would be running flat out flipping through the notes day and night trying to gather up enough currency to tempt the little silver haired winker too.
Woh, sorry chaps - I appear to have left my cynical hat on today.
In all seriousness though - I'm pretty sure the shear magnitude of hosting an F1 race elsewhere would take months to put in place, unfortunately.

Sorry, was meaning to put plans in place to race in Dubai/Qatar in 2013 - I'm well aware to do so for this year would be impossible!
Thoughts were prompted by this inset on BBC article from Andrew Benson:
"Bahrain has a contract to 2016 but the rules state that any race that has to be cancelled two years on the trot cannot be put back on the calendar the following year unless there is an argument for force majeure. But the unrest in Bahrain has been ongoing since February 2011, so it would be difficult to make that case. As Bahrain is one of F1's most lucrative races, it's not hard to understand the reluctance to call it off, despite many believing the sport has no choice given the situation in the Gulf state."

Dubai Autodrome doesn't have the cash to run the eventThere is only 1 grandstand
There is only 2 spectator viewing locations
Never going to happen with Yas Marina down the road
Saying that I only live 10 minutes walk from the circuit......

Glock collects first win, Pic second and Maylander classified 3rd (BCE declares 90% rule contravenes European Court of Human Rights rules in order to have Maylander classified as such).
As the race is now on, I thought its worth a quote. MG John has now raced down the bookies on the basis of this dead cert. He eckons he can get another house out of this... Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
