I haven’t seen any races on SKY so can’t really comment, but I have to say DC is starting to grate a bit, it’s not what he says, it’s how he says it, I tweeted him during the summer break , ‘David, we love you, but why do you commentate as if you’re straining for a st?’
Did he respond?

Lazenby has a face that constantly seems to be asking for a smack. He tries to be funny, but isn't. And as for that funny shaped short bird, waste of oxygen.

I prefer the BBC and am sorry that Jake is moving on. EJ is funny, a bit eccentric and is as hard nosed as you want when he needs to be. He must have a lot of respect around the paddock as he seems to be universally liked.

One 'personality' that needs removing from both Sky and the BBC is Christian Horner.

I've only watched BBC highlights once or twice this year as I upgraded to Sky HD to get the whole lot live.

Sky has improved over the year as I've got used to the presenters and they have got into their roles. Damon Hill has improved (partly through the addition of Herbert to take some of the strain). I even quite like Georgie Thompson now. The commentary team is great too. While I liked Coulthard I really liked listening to the old 5Live team last year so it's great to combine the best of last BBC 2011. I can't say I miss the Top Gear-like act between EJ, DC and Jake though.

Both are fine, I'm still not sold on the sky lead presenter but I certainly don't dislike him. However I would prefer everything to be on BBC so I don't have to go online to watch the F1, and wouldn't have to pay a premium to watch it.

BTW how much motorsport is actually available on sky as when I last looks it all seemed to be on espn etc which would require another subscription!
Most of the GP2, GP3 and Porsche Carrera cup is on there, sometimes it need recording at funny hours but I think it may even all be on there
Plus you get MotorsTV which has a good balance of coverage. Eurosport seems to cover the bits in the middle. MotoGP, ALMS, WEC, WTCC, lots of UK Champs, etc.

I'd vote Sky but it'd be unfair as I haven't watched any BBC coverage this year to compare it against. How many Sky haters will be that fair?

I've only had sky for a week so not really seen the full spread. There's all the f1 support races on sky f1 channel, motors tv has various gt championships, world rally and a few uk based smaller championships, then there's world and British superbikes, as well as Moto GP on Eurosports.

As for overall coverage of F1, I still think bbc is slightly better, but I have seen an improvement from the start of the season on Sky, and there is some good things on there.

I saw the Spa race on sky, and seeing Brundles tour of the old circuit was good.

I voted for both.

I have had Sky for a while now, but only recently upgraded to HD (to tie in with new TV purchase) and have almost exclusively watched the Sky coverage.

For me, the Sky coverage isn't quite as good as the BBC, but I can get everything in one place with Sky F1, so I have just stuck with it, and now quite enjoy it. I don't tend to watch too much of the pre-race build up, or the after-shows as I don't have the time.

Sky = quantity over quality.
BBC = quality over quantity.

And before some muppet points out that they use the same feed I'm referring to production values pre/post race.

Lazenby/Humphries both enjoy asking questions but quickly lose interest in the answer and their attention starts to wander...

Bloody rude in my opinion.

I was and still am against the BBCs actions over the F1 coverage but i have been enjoying SkyF1 a lot, i do miss Jake and even Eddie but not so much DC (i like Herbert TBH) LazyB is getting there but he's no Jake which is why i cut him some slack on that score (Jake was exellent and anyone would struggle to meet his stanaard im my eyes), Hill can take or leave at the mo TBH.
To recap watched both (several times) and prefer Sky over this years beeb but preferd the way it was aqlthough i like the sky ap except for Georgy

Georgie on Sky nearly always wears the same style one piece dress like a bin liner, which looks awful.

Eddie Jordan wears great shirts.

BBC is the clear winner here, as there is no unnecessary waffle from the presenters, and no commercial breaks.

I like watching it live, with the pre-race show etc so it has to be Sky.

Also having Brundle, Hill, Jonny H, Ant' Davison, Alan McNish etc Sky has the best insight to the race.

BBC before, Sky During, mixture of the two after depending on what they're doing.

I think most have hit the nail on the head. Sky quantity over quality with many unnecessary bits and too much coverage but overall is saved by Brundle who makes the whole show worthwhile but we all miss Jake as Lazenby is poor (and should have been fired over his Monaco gaff). What nailed it for me also was the lack of consistent live BBC coverage.

Too much? On a race weekend, they pretty much do what the BBC do. An hour/hour and a half Pre-race talking, tech segments, etc, grid walk, then the race, then a post-race jabbering. Their race coverage is pretty much the same as the BBC in my opinion, just with different people.

The rest of Sky F1 is just F1 based programming. The F1 show, legends, old races, etc. not sure why that is a bad thing.

They all show the same camera feed, which IIRC is controlled by FOM.

Yup... Already said that this thread. I meant that is it pretty much the same format. Complaining that there is too much seems a bit weak. The Pre-race, race, and post race is essentially the same stuff, for about the same amount of time.

Neither.
After following F1 since the early 80's, I stopped watching it this year. Can't say I miss it either.
Its a shadow of its former self. So so glad I witness F1 in its glory days.

Bizarre! You are either a fan or not.

I also have followed F1 since the early 80's and I love it as much now as I did then

If you include the BBC red button then yes it's similar but with all of the analysis, build ups, practice sessions, repeats the time racing is less than the wrapping and I feel they're just repeating what's been said again and again. So much so now I refuse to turn on or watch before Martin does his pit walk, always great, and switch off after the flag's dropped.
