"But we're still suing him."
For both sides separating personal from business is going to make things more than a little uncomfortable but this is just business.

It seems unlikely that this will get as far as actually going to court but we'll see. If you aren't willing to enforce a contract then you don't really have a contract at all. Chip has to answer his sponsors who themselves have invested in Alex based on an agreed understanding.

That’s a pretty silly place he’s got himself into there.

Presumably Zak Brown is backing him, and was 100% aware of the situation before signing Palou? If that turns out not to be the case, he could end up driving nowhere next season. If Zak is backing him, then it’s most likely going to be a simple case of how big is the cheque.

Well McLaren have stated that they had no visibility of Alex's contract with Ganassi and they thought they were signing a free agent. They've also said that they will not be buying out any contracts.

All of which makes sense but doesn't fully square with McLarens initial rushed announcement at midnight/1am UK time of his signing.

If McLaren knew nothing of the Ganassi contract, that’s totally nuts. if AP doesn’t have an agent representing him, and has managed to get himself in this mess all on his own, he could be totally screwed in his career. The court case wil drag on through the winter and he’ll have nowhere to drive next season.

Edit: oh, he does have a management team representing him, @jsf post above. Whoops!

Does what time it was in the UK really factor into the announcement of the signing of a driver who is primarily known in the USA?

It does because it was McLaren Racing and not the Arrow McLaren SP Indycar team who made the announcement. Also if you look at past practice McLaren are very aware of timezones and global reach so tended to announce major news early afternoon UK time to best reach US, Europe and Asia.

From this article:

https://www.motorsport.com/indycar/news/mclaren-al...

'Some shade has also been thrown in the Indianapolis media about the quality of Palou’s management team, Monaco Increase Management. This is odd, as his direct manager, Roger Yasukawa, is a former IndyCar driver himself and its senior advisor, Daniele Audetto, used to run the Ferrari and Super Aguri F1 teams.'

Every man and his dog has driven an indycar, that's no gauge of being a good driver manager. If you read that management website, there is no depth of talent there, the website would soon fill a bullst bingo card.

You’ve forgotten that Sky has no respect for IndyCar and is happy to let Ted drivel on so long that it becomes even later. It’s their own fking TV guide and they just can’t be bothered to honour it. For what?

When the place seats 400k anything less looks barren and empty. Even 50k people can be seated in the main stand opposite the pits AFAIK.

What does O'Ward have to do to get some luck?
