Well that was the first indy 500 we've watched start to finish. Think we now understand what all the fuss is about. The atmosphere must have been amazing trackside.
Plan to go next year if we can.
See you there. Ticket application filed yesterday for the 108th running. Cannot wait to get back there again.

Honestly if you come out the week before fast Friday and qualifying is impressive. They turn the boost up and the cars are setup to last 4 laps. The top guys are really loose on the 4th lap and doing 235mph 4 wheel drifts. Was my 2nd Indy500 unfortunately a double dnf for us and the cars didn’t have the turn of speed of last year.

If you plan to go, there are a number of people on PH who've already been. Obviously a handy source of advice.

The track itself has an official page on how to prepare in advance.

Next year will be trip number 7 to the 500. On previous trips we've come out for qualifying on 3 occasions including 2 trips where we did the full 2 weeks of practice, quali and race.

Last year we went "all in" to make up for the missed COVID years and got ourselves Silver Badges. Watching practice and qualifications from pit road was awesome. Throw in Circle City, Lawrenceburg, Terre Haute, IRP, Kokomo, Gas City and the Fairgrounds etc and it's an awful lot of racing.

LOL at the start of the Indy NXT race, as the pole sitter was early on the brakes for the first corner, and everyone piled in behind.

Make a note of the name Nolan Siegel. He’s 18, and almost won the NXT by five seconds
(Until the last corner, when his gearbox gave him a load of neutrals)

If that’s a taster, Indycar is likely to be pretty exciting on that tight narrow circuit.

The state of some of the surface on this track. Looks like some of it is concrete rather than asphalt.

The whole circuit is a disgrace, what are they doing racing at this POS venue?

Wow that double-sided pitlane looks a recipe for disaster! Track looks a mess, but then Detroit already kinda looks like a zombie apocalypse has already happened.

No surprises that someone missed the braking point for the first corner - congratulations Calum Ilott.

Great opportunity for Grosjean here.

That pit exit is going to see an accident if a caution brings everyone in together, and they all need to funnel down to single file.

Palou adding to his lead, now 51 points ahead of Ericsson and 70 ahead of Newgarden. It’s going to take some effort for anyone to beat him from here it seems.
