It was the same for Japfest, used to be at Combe but the organisers decided to go to silverstone because they "could fit more cars", what they also did was change the ticket policy. For combe it was a car ticket (driver + 3 passengers) but silverstone is was one for each.
I went last year and remembered what a bleak place it is and won't be going back, also there were quite a few gaps and zero organisation of where the clubs were, we were shoved up on this raised hard standing which didn't fit the number of cars confirmed by the club and even the ones that did turn up were sent to the wrong club stands.
Combe has done it's own version and it's got all the joys/family feel and fun that the Japfest used to have, oh and it's still driver+2 passengers per ticket iirc.
I'm sure there are reasons why Silverstone is better (all I can think is that there are more toilets) but the evidence so far is not justifying the move. I do wonder if they will suffer low crowd numbers, Barcelona didn't look like it was full of people compared to other events! As I said before this will only harm WorldRX which needs to boost its' appeal, fingers crossed is big enough to do this despite moving.
Silverstone is possibly the worst circuit in the whole of the UK for spectators. It's as flat as a pancake, and with the exception of a few grandstands and a small section after Copse viewing is through more fences than Stalag 17. Add to that the sky high prices and it's a rough deal.I went last year and remembered what a bleak place it is and won't be going back, also there were quite a few gaps and zero organisation of where the clubs were, we were shoved up on this raised hard standing which didn't fit the number of cars confirmed by the club and even the ones that did turn up were sent to the wrong club stands.

Why anyone would think moving the WorldRX there from Lydden is a good idea is just beyond me. Clearly decisions being made by people who neither watch the sport, nor seemingly have any interest in those who (pay to) watch it either.

As is ever the case when the sniff of freshly minted folding stuff becomes the priority......aeropilot said:

As is ever the case when the sniff of freshly minted folding stuff becomes the priority......One of the advantages of WRX at Lydden is the availability for visiting European spectators.
The rise in the cost of tickets next year plus everything connected with Silverstone is more expensive ,food ,camping and accommodation etc ,could make the Europeans stay away .
I also feel it's another nail in the Lydden coffin .

Article by the world RX reporter for Motorsport News tried to justify the move by saying the toilet in the paddock couldn't cope with the volume and the internet in the media centre is crap.
These things can be fixed.
As above the proximity to Dover is a massive pull for mainland Europeans.

After 2 years of unexplained tech problems and being unable to upload pics from 2 different cameras to 2 different laptops
a miracle occurred and I now have available some crap pics from my Holjes trip in 2015.
It's the next round of this year too.
Crap pic but check out the flying Audi of I think Anton Marklund.

Ouch, I have just seen the prices for Silverstone next year, Earlybird Weekend Ticket £95, £125 on the gate, camping is even worse at £140 or £170 each.
That is double the cost of Lydden, I think I will be voting with my feet and staying at home!!
Hahahaha OMG £125 !! What planet are they on ?! Euro Rallyx at Lydden even back in 2014 was £25 for the day. Utterly absurd. And furthermore, you'll be a mile away from the track, not right next to it at Lydden. I shant bother at those prices. That is double the cost of Lydden, I think I will be voting with my feet and staying at home!!

Aye, it's fairly soulless when it's empty, much better when it's packed at the GP, but even then it's not unforgettable. Why anyone would think moving the WorldRX there from Lydden is a good idea is just beyond me. Motorsport news reports that Mattias Ekstrom is likely to miss his home round at Holjes as it clashes with a DTM round and seeing
as Audi pays his wages ,it's them who have the say in what he prioritises.
I doubt he was going to beat Petter's Polos in the championship fight so might as well try and win at DTM instead.
P G Andersson will replace him if confirmed.

Watched a YouTube vid earlier ,an introduction to this weekend's event at Loheac ,France ,was presented by the English
commentator.
EKS Audi have brought 4 cars with them ,presumably extra car for P.G. Andersson ,in an attempt to outdo the Solberg
Polos.
Kristoffersson is a shoe in for the championship with his form and 10 Audis wouldn't be enough to stop him.
Anyone going up to Buxtehude ,Germany later on this year ?

We're on holiday and transpired staying nearby loheac so popped along today. First experience of these things in person, and only free practise but really spectacular and a great circuit for viewing, you could see pretty much the whole track.
It's also beside possibly one of the best car museums I've ever been in!
EKS seem to be struggling financially, the cars are up for sale apparently.

Alister McRae drove a Loco team Polo in Loheac last weekend .
Bit of a surprise.
All very well, but so far as the Uk round is concerned, the series is being "developed" by moving it away from the place of the sport's birth and it's European spectators to a st location, with massively increased ticket costs and has been pulled from free-to-air TV.Bit of a surprise.
So frankly I'd be surprised if many people in the UK give a toss about it any more. McCrae or no McCrae.
Just watched today's final from Buxtehude ,Germany ,what I went to last year.
Petter in the final despite having an operation mere days ago.
Krisstofferson not in the final ,first time for ages for that ,not that he cares having secured the Championship in Latvia
last time out.
Saw a few other vids from the weekend and loads tried the amazing move Kevin Ericsson did at the first corner last year to win and all failed at it.
