BT sport will have paid a significant amount for the rights to broadcast this live. Hence, the only other way would be illegal sites who re-broadcast live events on their websites or some form of proxy service to allow you to connect to a legal stream somewhere else.

Shame they don't have the initiative to offer a PPV service for non-customers like Sky do with Now TV.

Think i may have to look at one of these options then, normally i pay for what i use but with how BT have treated me in the past i will have no regrets about doing them out of the money as trust me they are still in the black.

I'm in the same boat. BT are below Sky on my list of companies I won't give money to.

There will be a feed somewhere we should be able to tap into, even though the commentary might be in Mandarin and the video quality a bit iffy...

The thing is, though, that this shouldn't be necessary. There are people who want to watch it legally and would be quite happy to pay for a day pass or weekend pass, such as with Now TV, but unwilling to pay for a full-fat year's subscription.

I think BT are missing out on additional income here.

Isn't the business model for BT Sport designed to get you to take their broadband though? They don't want you watching their content using someone else's BB.

I expect they've looked at the numbers and reckon they'd get more revenue in the medium to long term by doing it the way they do now.

And yet I can get BT Sport channels on my Sky box if I upgrade my subscription.

Don't you still have to take out a contract with BT Sport if you don't already have their BB?

I don't know. I was just pointing out that you can get BT Sport without BT Broadband because BT Sport is available through Sky.

sign up to BT Sports on BT's website, give sky viewing card number - https://www.sky.com/help/articles/get-bt-sport-on-...

They do 1 month minimum contracts - https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/bt...

Hmmm... £22.99 + £35 activation fee. Then £27.99/month after your 'free' 3 months.

I think I'll stick to Freeview.

I have BT broadband, for now, there website tells me i can get bt sport for free. No one at BT could tell me how, finally found it myself to see that on the last section it mentions in the small print that your free BT sport means you sign up for another 12 month minimum contract.

Not going to do this as will leave them as soon as i can.

Press release from BT..

It's a shame they can't afford a plane ticket for Suzi Perry...

BT SPORT TO SHOW INDIANAPOLIS 500 LIVE ON TV AND ONLINE
BT Sport will be shining the spotlight on F1 driver Fernando Alonso as he attempts to win the second leg of the historic “triple crown” in the 101st Indianapolis 500 (Indy500) race this weekend.
Starting on Sunday, 28 May, the race will be broadcast in full, as well as featuring an exclusive interview with Fernando Alonso ahead of the iconic oval race. Coverage will be anchored by Suzi Perry live from the BT Sport studios in London and will include expert analysis from British professional racing driver Mike Conway and top sports journalist, Richard Williams.
Having already won the Monaco Grand Prix, Alonso has set his sights on becoming only the second driver after the late Briton Graham Hill to win the Formula One championship, Indy and Le Mans.
Coverage of the race will start at 4.30pm live on BT Sport/ESPN, and will also be available on www.btsport.com or via the BT Sport app. BT Sport is showing every Indycar race throughout the 2017 season.
BT Sport’s coverage of the race is to be produced by independent company Whisper Films and will include insight from former F1 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “Motor racing fans across the world are intrigued to see how the world class Fernando Alonso will fare against his more experienced Indycar competitors. Led by Suzi Perry, our team will provide live expertise and analysis on one of the most iconic races on the global motorsport calendar.

Ah, this is interesting. So, my mum has BT Broadband which seems to imply that I can use her BT ID and logon as her then watch BT Sport for free.

I haven't found a catch yet...

BTW, I should just say that she has absolutely no interest in watching BT Sport herself, so I don't think I'm going to be preventing her from watching it biggrin

Hold on though. Do I need to be accessing it through her router for it to work?

Hold on again, trying to register for the app and the first charge appears...

"Order access to the app and online player for £2.50/mth." mad

You watch it online by logging in on the BT Sports ESPN page - https://home.bt.com/login/loginform?TYPE=33554433&...

Edited as I said BT Sport 2 before.

It also says "Not activated BT Sport yet?

If you ordered BT Broadband before 1st August and just want the app and online player, you need to activate your access. If you've ordered BT Sport on BT TV or Sky, we'll automatically activate your access to the app and online player.
Activate BT Sport now"

So she hasn't activated it for the app I suppose.

No, she wouldn't even know what it is let alone activate it!

I'm not going to activate it if it's then going to cost her £2.50 a month and even then I may not be able to access it as I'm not using her BB connection, just her login.

We were under a Tornado warning for much of last evening here in central Indiana. At about 9pm we got a massive thunderstorm but the really serious stuff passed North. Today is sunny and beautiful but storms are due to return tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow. Hopefully they will be have cleared away before the start of the race. 300,000 people expected here tomorrow.

Indy car establishment are pleased at the extra international attention Alonso has gotten for the race but they would be quite happy if he doesn't win. hehe

BT don't make it easy to watch this even for BT customers.

I have Infinity 2 Fibre, now I expected to download a BT Sport app for my Amazon Fire TV, log in with my BT broadband account and Fanny's your Auntie.

But no, I have to order a BT box, which I do not want, and then watch through an aerial! How very quaint and 20th century!! I don't have a roof-top aerial nor a satellite dish.

Why won't they let me use my fast broadband to watch stuff?

I looked at this a couple of days ago and it looked to me that you can. Log in with your BT ID and pay £2.50 a month and that should allow you to download the app to your PC or mobile and watch it from there.
