2017 Indianapolis 500
Discussion
Surely it would be easy enough for TV channels all to have a YouTube channel in a paid area. Users could pay for YouTube credit and the channel you watched at any given time would get paid from your credit for the duration that you were watching. Any global TV station that wanted could have a presence there so there'd be no need for the silliness that's currently preventing many of us from watching the Indy 500.

It would be good for us, but not good for the business model the rights holders are operating.BT is the rights holder in this case and they want you to sign up to their broadband. They aren't bothered about getting a few thousand one-off pay per view fees for one event. They want more of your money, every month for at least a year and in return they'll give you a crappy BB service and some entertainment for free.
We can all think of better ways of doing it which suits us, but none of them will suit BT.
BT - We've redefined the word 'Free'!

What you're saying makes sense, but that hasn't stopped Sky from offering Now TV.
No, but they have a different business model to BT.It's possible BT will change the way they do things, but they are a communications provider at heart and Sky are an entertainment provider at heart, so you can understand why they do things differently at the moment.
Give it another 5 years and I doubt we'll have these distinctions any more, especially with the way Amazon and Netflix are expanding their offerings.

I looked at this a couple of days ago and it looked to me that you can. Log in with your BT ID and pay £2.50 a month and that should allow you to download the app to your PC or mobile and watch it from there.
I don't want to watch the Indy 500 on my PC and as for a mobile, I don't think my 12 year old phone is up to the job.I want to watch the Indy 500 on my Kuro via the Fire TV, just like I watch the BBC, ITV, CH4, NHK and countless other TV services.
I have fast enough broadband to stream it but if BT don't want my money, I'll just stream it via Sportsdevil for free.

Sounds like a plan I want to watch the Indy 500 on my Kuro via the Fire TV, just like I watch the BBC, ITV, CH4, NHK and countless other TV services.

Bright sunshine here right now. Sitting on my deck having breakfast. Clouds forming though but they now think we may not get any rain until 2pm.Vyse said:
Dont know anything about Indi 500. Why is it regarded as being so special? Why is it better than the other races in the series?
History is the reason and the US likes history, because they don't have too much of it Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built in 1909
The Indianapolis 500 has been held there since 1911 (that's 12 years older than Le Mans)
500 miles, up to 3 hours of racing at an lap average of 225mph, race average including pitstops of 185mph.

Crowd of 300,000 makes it the biggest one day sporting event in the world. It used to be bigger as the whole month of May was build up. Still massive though, party's all over the city and thousands of Hoosiers are at the track.
The race is shown live on tv all over the world except here in Indy where it is blacked out! The tradition (if you're not at the track) is to listen to the radio and then watch the re run tonight.
Weather now looks set fair.

Looks like a bad start for Alonso.
It's interesting to see ex F1 drivers in there; Montoya, Sato, Chilton (doesn't really count).
Sensible start, I'd say. Nothing to gain by going crazy from the get go.It's interesting to see ex F1 drivers in there; Montoya, Sato, Chilton (doesn't really count).
