I wont be using the exocet I be using a 1.8 mk1 mx5 either n/a or turbo charged not sure yet devepending on what deal I can arrange with my contacts. Hopefully can arrange something for the event as it looks like a great event and a well worthy charity too.
Tip top! Worth noting... an 1800 turbo is firmly in the Invitational category. Meaning you need to be invited. We only make invites if the rest of the grid doesn't sell out, and we've already sold a big chunk. If you want tl assure an entry then the only copper bottomed way is avoid the turbo and stick in a deposit!

A few questions on setting the team up for the event. First its a 1.8 mk1 I'm planning on going turbo with it this will put me in invitational class or class e?
Definitely invitational, even if its N/A. Apparently this year cars in each class must conform exactly to series regulations or be placed in invitational. So a Mk1 Mx5 would have to be a 1.6, Gaz dampers, etc.

2nd full cost of the event obviously the entry fees but generally what is the average cost of the event with fuel/tyres etc.
In terms of cost, last year we spent...

Entry - £2100
Tyres - £2050
Fuel - £1000
Insurance - £2700
General prep - £650
Wear and tear - £1550
Transport - £250
Accomodation and food - £450

Total - £10750

3rd insurance as there will be other drivers mainly people I know what is required with that, also on other drivers what's the typical cost for a drive in the event.
This year we will be running two Exiges and will be charging ~£2500 per driver with 4 drivers per car. As you can see its not a money maker but it a race that I really want to do and happy to just cover costs. I guess a drive in a C1 or Mk1 MX5 might be a bit cheaper than this as the running costs and insurance will be considerably less (not having to insure against a £40k loss) but on the flip side you don't have a chance of an overall win in a C1. biggrin

Just trying too build up an idea of cost for the event so I can get required funds together. Hopefully will be able too join and experience this great event.
Definitely go for it if you can. It is an amazing experience and very humbling. Its the highlight of the race season for me.

By comparison...

Entry - £2100
Tyres - £800
Fuel - £450 (between three cars, we all arrived with full tanks)
General prep - £500 (new brakes on each car)
Wear and tear - £200 (two engine mounts and a radiator)
Transport - £250 (between three cars)
Accomodation and food - £100 (we all have campers we kip in)

Total - £4150 between three cars and four drivers

I don’t think your wear and tear figure is accurate as you haven’t taken into account the reduction in lifespan of the engine, gearbox, dampers, bushes, etc. It may not have cost you yet but those costs will catch up with you at some point. We work out the wear and tear on a cost per minute basis, factoring how many hours engines, gearboxes, dampers, brakes, etc do between servicing/rebuilding/replacement. It works out at around £1.50 per minute. Including free practice and qualifying sessions there is over 1000 minutes of track time at RoR.

Just goes to show, there’s a LOT more prep involved to make one car last 12 hours rather than prepping them for one hour stints with 2-3 hour breaks. But relaying isn’t proper endurance racing. wink

Still, it’s definitely cheaper to race an Mx5, Compact or C1 than it is a Lotus. But not as fast. biggrin

Considering I've got enough mx5 parts o build about 3 mx5 wear and tear isn't too much of an issue and we all know mx5 mechanicals are bullet proof just a shame they rust like a 70s british sports car. I'm also lucky in that ive already got a fully built kit car with all the necessary safety equipment I can place in the vehicle for the event the only other part is sourcing a full cage. ITs all ready got a lot of extra bracing fitted and all the suspension is spot on apart from fitting gaz coilovers which could also come from the kit car.

Budgeting about 3k for the build and around 5-6k for the event.

Got a few drivers interested so if I can secure them will get the entry In hopefully end of week.
