Calendar confirmed the same as last year

We know Rob Austin is going to stay at Handy Motorsport but using an Alfa Giulietta

Then today TOCA have announced a special 60 mile (double length) third race at Snetterton, with it's own qualifying session without ballast, giving double points.

http://www.btcc.net/2017/10/18/special-championshi...

I think that's pretty cool and the link says there's more to come so it could be a good year!

Sounds good. I wonder if pit-stops will be necessary - I would imagine they will for tyre-wear if not fuel.

I wonder how they'll work the longer final race into the weekend with regards to the earlier support races? I guess it would have to start at least 30 minutes earlier than normal (to account for any safety car, delays, track noise limit cut-off). I'd guess that pit stops would have to return as I can't see Toca asking Dunlop to work up a brand new harder tyre compound to last the race and i doubt the current tyre compounds would last.

Should be interesting either way and better than the previous night race(s) at Snetterton years ago hehe

Its only an additional 8 laps or so tyres will be fine no pit stops needed.

NGTC cars were designed with larger fuel
Tanks for 'endurance' races in mind.

It has been commented to me that tyre wear and fuel is unlikely to be an issue if you factor in the usual rate of field attrition at Snetterton hehe

I think they should introduce the ballast free qualifying and third race at every meeting (perhaps not double points though). I find it's getting too follow my leader, boring and predictable. I appreciate why it's done but I'd rather see the bigger names/teams fight it out on real pace.

Agreed. Failing that I'd make the third race a cash prize and not count towards the championship. Reverse grids just make the last race a bit of a farce

I wouldn't read too much into this, there's a lot of people doing TCR 'testing' over winter as it means more seat time.

Bobby Thompson confirmed for Team HARD.

For anyone who doesn't know who he is, he raced Fiestas with Jamsport a few years back, did a few rounds in Formula Ford in 2014 before going off to race in the VW Racing Cup, with HARD later in the year, with Power Maxed last year and then again last year when he won the championship with Team HARD.

He's also cousin of Aaron Thompson (who races in Clio Cup)

He's a great driver and it's about time he got the break he deserves. Very happy for him!

Nice idea, however cash prize funded by WHO, and awarded to WHO?

If they don't mandate a tyre stop (maybe just 2 tyres rather than all 4), then there wont be any FWD cars finishing the double length Snetterton race.

Well i thought it seemed kind of obvious but awarded by TOCA/an sponsor to the winner... A wacky notion I know

I think that this is definitely something that would be a good reward in club racing, where there is more owner/drivers, albeit it inevitably means that cash ends up going towards the person who quite probably has the most cash anyway.

That’s why I’d do it in race 3 where the grids are reversed. It’s not a given that the teams who have the most cash will win the race

Might be wrong, think they did announce a 2 year deal. Hopefully he has a bit more good luck next season, and a few of the problems with the car now ironed out.

Is Turkey staying as WSR? I cant find anything saying yes for sure, but he's been testing with Ricky Collard so I assume (hope) he is.

Geoff Kingston going to Team HARD, that's got to be a blow for Speedworks.
