FE is only on the BBC website to the degree it is because they're showing the races on the red button, if it was still on Channel 5 or whatever it was on last season it'd barely get a mention, the same way any motorsport that isn't F1 barely gets a mention.

And for the spectator numbers being less in rallying that's partly down to the organisers for making it harder to watch rallying in the first place, plus for the most part it only seems to be a UK thing more than a sport wide problem, crowd sizes at other rounds always look pretty decent, it just isn't a popular sport over here anymore, you can't really use what you see over here to say rallying is dead everywhere.

Someone is obviously paying a lot of money to promote FE in the media and working hard to convince manufacturers its the next big thing which they should be involved with, but it doesn't seem to have that much in the way of actual human fans etc?

How about Petter Solberg back in the WRC Fiesta now that PSRX are having a year out of World RX?

Petter would probably be interested in the R5 car, already tested it and I would think that in some way VW have been testing a few bits and bobs for that car in WRX, although I doubt mush is useful, more life testing and that sort of thing for certain components.

I'd imagine Petter would stick with Vw and an R5 Polo. WRC cars have moved on quite a bit since he was last in one full time, and I don't think he had the greatest season back then!

Regarding sponsorship for M-Sport, it's always going to be difficult to raise enough in this environmentally friendly/electric/tree hugging world we are living in now. So many companies don't really want to be associated with cars that burn nearly a litre of fuel per kilometre, while tearing up the countryside.

pretty sure Petter picked up the R5 for Oscar to use more than himself. but given his pace in it at rally Spain perhaps he could be persuaded to have a few more outings.

Paddon has confirmed he was only offered one event by Hyundai this year, which he declined and so is sitting out the year. Such a shame as he had the pace on the events he contested. Really stty treatment if you ask me.
Wondering now if he's ruled himself out of the M-Sport seat, or perhaps just a bit of smokescreen?

The problem there is that he (and his NZ team) have such a strong relationship with Hyundai NZ, which is likely to continue long after his WRC days are over - they've been big supporters of his career, he's very loyal to them and doesn't want to throw that away.

Having said that... he probably isn't going to contest the NZRC title again anytime soon (nothing left to prove there), so maybe they could find an agreement with the various parties to let him drive another brand in WRC without cutting his Hyundai NZ ties for the future.

Yeah, that was my thinking to Ben. Wonder if a deal for personal sponsorship could be agreed if an M-Sport wanted him?
Seen plenty of cars on other events running sponsorship from opposing manufacturers, but not sure it’d work on the international scale.

It would be most amusing to see him in an M-Sport Fiesta with Hyundai NZ sponsorship on it, competing against the Hyundai factory team! I don't think Hyundai corporate would like that though, especially if he's beating them...

According to Australian and Japanese Motoring press, Subaru are developing a new small car to sit under the Impreza in terms of lineup and will develop same with a view to returning to the world rally championship.

I see Dan Barritt is joining Takamoto Katsuta for next year, a sign of Elfyn's chances of a drive next year?

Could be. wont be the first time Elfyn has changed co-drivers, plenty of boys as experienced as Dan still without a seat too, Paul Nagle and Scott Martin to name just a few.

Interesting statement from Hyundai about not having any other options for Loeb to test for Monte and the 2019 car until the weekend before, and then straight into recce & shakedown for him. Leads me to think Hyundai have drastic evolution parts to bolt onto the i20. otherwise having a few blasts in the current car should prove helpful to testing?

Nothing immediate it seems.

Monte entry for M-Sport - Sunninen, Evans, Tideman. They've committed to a full season with 3 cars, so I imagine the 3rd will be occupied by the best paying driver if/once Tideman vacates it after Sweden.

I'd imagine if Craig gets a season together then he could partner up with Paul Nagle again?

M-Sport's own press release says nothing about a third car other than for the first two rounds? I expect they will run one if Tidemand/Breen/whoever brings enough cash in.
