I think part of the problem with the 'quiet' thread is that with WRC (certainly until this season) we get to see such a tiny percentage of the action it's hard to make truly educated comments. It's not like F1 or even Le Mans where every significant piece of action gets shown on repeat, and so can be endlessly dissected.

Just watching a few of the YouTube vids and you get a whole different flavour of the rally. The Sarrazin crash was a monster, for example, but even following the All Live as I did I had no idea he had even retired! And the way they had to paddle through the snow (helped along by Mr Rabbit in the onesie!) didn't come across on the coverage. That one snowy corner would have made a page on this thread if it'd been on live terrestrial TV...

Thats a fair point, a lot of the more interesting footage only surfaces later after the event. WRC+ all live is helping with that but there is still only so much they can cover.

I thought Neuville showed a bit more grit than previous seasons too in fighting back to 5th after his time loss on the opening night - in the past he might have given up on a points placing and just cruised through until the power stage.

It was announced today that Mads Ostberg is making a guest appearance at the Otago Classic Rally (local to me) this year in a BDA Escort, which should be a lot of fun. He joins a long list of top class drivers to compete here in the same car - Vatanen, Kankunnen, Mouton etc... http://www.otagorally.com/home/news/643-norwegian-... . Hayden Paddon will also be back for it too, driving the Hyundai NZ AP4 car in the NZRC. That rally is generally one of the motorsport highlights of the year for me. smile

from what I could see with WRC All Live it was promising! still room for refinement but at the end of the day its in its infancy and I for one was possibly to harsh on it. Although agree the tie in with the Rally Radio and having that constant bed track playing is annoying.

If I can time it right, and the code I have for a months access stays valid I should be able to get the trial to cover Sweden and Mexico.
Sweden will be interesting as the poor weather there last year (i think, could be year before) caused all the live feed stuff to go down.

Monte was a cracking event, with plenty of action and lots of slip ups for the top boys. Here's hoping for a season like last year with mixed winners and results for all.

WRC All Live was certainly rough around the edges, but I’ll probably keep my subscription after the free trial ends. The WRC iPhone app was disappointing, the itinerary/split times didn’t display for the majority of times I looked, and when they did the formatting made it unreadable.

As for the event itself, Ogier showed why he’s a multiple world champion. Pushed when necessary, recovered from his small mistakes, and was able to control the gap to Tanak.

Toyota are my bet for the manufacturers title. I’m not sure that Tanak will beat Ogier for the drivers championship but it will be a great fight between them both...

...but what about Hyundai? Mikkleson was unlucky. Neuville was the same as last year - fast but unmeasured.

Citroen are worrying me. I fear Breen and Meeke will be looking for other drives this winter. I’m a huge fan of both and the WRC would be weaker to not have their talents included.

He'll be bringing a shed load of cash for Malcolm's piggy bank and he's not running as part of the MSFWRT so I'm not seeing how it's awful news?

I have to say, this looks like further proof that Ford Performance aren't putting a whole lot of cash into M-Sport; their backing is more technical then financial. Also, you only had to look at their tweets during the last weekend to see were their priority is - it's not WRC.

I thought Neuville was unlucky too to be honest - the difference between his big time loss and Ogier's small time loss on the opening night was entirely due to how many spectators happened to be nearby when they slid off and got stuck.

He was quite ragged in places during the push back into the points I guess, but kept it on the road.

Hopefully we see a good charge from Paddon in Sweden, I expect he will be wanting to make a statement.

Excellent news for UK rallying - England’s first closed road rally, the Corbeau Seats Clacton and Tendring Stages, opened for entries at 9am today and have already received 106 applications for the 110 places (plus 10 invitees).

Great to see the interest from competitors. But the reading from this group against the rally is quite incredible!

SS1 - which I presume is also SS6 and 11....no idea where it is but I'm booking into a Premier Inn at Colchester. I may have to stand in for a nav on recce as he's stuck elsewhere. Are you doing set up?

Brilliant to see a closed road event in England and I hope it all goes smoothly to help build momentum so we can run more.
I don't know if there are any plans to run one In the North east/west.

It seems the North West Stages have it under consideration.....

PTSD in animals is the complaint? What a load of ste!

All the rallies we have over here and I've never heard a farmer or anyone who's livelihood depends on animals complain about PTSD induced by loud sounds from the cars!

Those objections to the rally are some of the more inventive ones I've seen!

There was a nutter over here objecting to the Galway Rally and posted some insane rantings on youtube about it.

People with nothing better to do!

Yes, probably. One of the Craven team has booked a caravan for the weekend, close to the stage, so we should be there on the saturday for set-up and recce.

ETA: and a very good entry list https://mtc1.uk/Entry/CSRTC18/EntryList.php

that's a cracking entry list! Rivals tarmac rounds on Epynt for the entry quality.

May have to venture over if I get enough interest from the club and offer marshalling assistance. I like the looks of the caravan deals of £99 for 6+ people.

You've got to laugh at all the morons trying to get the rally shut down "because of the birds" rofl
