I tried to look up what's happened and got the gist of it ,no thanks to the drop down list obscuring half the screen on Autosports site.
Turkey has always been a car breaker.

Twitter is amazing for Wrc news,. I only initially signed up for it a few years ago when the sports future was looking extremely dodgy, and I wanted to know what was going on.

Today has been incredible, hadn't seen anything like it for a long time. Gutted for Citroen and Craig Breen, never nice to see a car burn out like that.

Top job by Chris Ingram. Pacing it well, keeping out of trouble and running p10.

As for Henning, what a hero! P6!

Spent yesterday in North Wales MTB-ing (including around Llyn Brenig); came home to find out the carnage from Turkey. Sounds like a throwback event, which is a good thing. Rallying is meant to be about both speed & endurance, driving to the conditions, looking after the car. WRC has become too much of a 'flat out' sprint that some people have forgotten about the other elements that make up a complete rally driver.

Yup, good to have a different type of rally for variety, all the guys on the podium earnt those places well with intelligent strategic driving and the discipline to hold back when they needed to.

Have to admit I watch far more amateur footage of Belgian, Dutch, Finnish rallying than anywhere else.

They just seem to have the right attitude, to both fans and drivers. And the events lok great to spectate at.

We certainly do not in the UK

I went to Ypres a few years ago. No spectator signs everywhere, militant marshals who just shouted at you and a helicopter that buzzed you when stood 1 foot too close to a perfectly straight bit of stage. I still enjoyed the event and would go back, but it's not as spectator friendly as you'd think.

Not the best example I reckon.

If you went to the more local stuff or even Belgian series, maybe Condroz, I think you might find it different.

Ypres is a massive event and likely heavily policed, quite why it has not yet been on the WRC I dont know, but it ought to be in some form.

Hence possibly why the massive red line!

I maybe wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Ypres organisers don't want to be in the WRC; and who can blame them?
They'd have to run an identikit WRC event....so with a Sunday lunchtime finish - whereas it's normal finish is Saturday evening. Far too many events have been ruined to fit the generic WRC format.

Very true

My point being that maybe not exactly the same as Ypres, but an event there would get massive crowds because of Neuville.

Ypres always used to get immense crowds, and they still put on big events there.

Condroz often gets special entries, I know Meeke and Solberg have entered there in the past, great event too in the winter.

You know if this was rallycross, there would now be events in Estonia and Belgium as a matter of course! They would be st, but that series runs events in its main drivers countries all the time, it indeed will take on drivers and encourage them just to get events, so hard are they finding it to get places to stick to the calendar!

Monday I got up at silly o'clock and drove 160 miles to go find Mikkelsen testing in Radnor and it was well worth it! I've seen many rallies, but the speed in places was ridiculous!

Videos on my Twitter.. https://twitter.com/i/status/1044309189173145604

For GB we are doing Slate Mountain followed by Pentrefoelas refuel, Dyfi and then Llandudno. I just hope the weather isn't horrific, and Craig Breen finally gets some luck!

Loeb was testing with Citroen in Wales a few days ok. Solberg is driving the Polo R5 in Spain.

I put a tweet out, which gave me a rumour. So I asked a friend who works in rally tv, and he sent me a picture of a Hyundai 4x4 in a nearby town which backed up said rumour. So I went on a roadtrip and luckily there were arrows from the nearby main road which lead me straight to the service area where I was able to park up. Apparently less than an hour later the arrows were gone and the gate to the woods closed. So lucky!

So Ogier has blown things wide open then. The last few months I have been absolutely adamant he would not go to Citroen but I guess the PSA chequebook did the talking (and Ford have not increased their commitment as he wanted)

Either way this now makes things VERY interesting in terms of driver line ups for next year and i think 2019 could be shaping up to be an epic season.

Meeke to Toyota anyone? smile

Motorsport News front page announced that Kris and Tommi have spoken.

As Lappi is almost certain to be at Citroen too.

Where does this leave Breen ?

Ogier, Breen, Lappi would be a great team! Or maybe Breen could end up at M-Sport along with Suninen and Evans? The driver market should start falling into place pretty quickly now the champ is sorted.
