If your a big rallycross fan from the 80's and 90's then its got to be Arthur Debenham. The guy is a legend
I will agree , He is a lovely man and known all over Europe in Rallycross. I used to nip up to the comms box to pass on information to him when I was on the startline post when officiating at Lydden.
A friend of mine does some of the rallycross now , Chris Pullman , ex Formula Ford champion , stalwart of the Production Rallycross Club and fairly senior at Buckmore Park .
Nick Harris
Dear God, a man that for 3 decades couldn't pronounce Magny Cours, team names, or riders names properly. Yet is somehow a figurehead of Dorna's team!
How in Gods name the man sustained a job in journalism I will never know. Probably a lovely chap, but when you train in journalism and you see and hear the mistakes he used to make, sorry but its a joke
Only man other than Kirby I have turned off a live race so I didn't have to listen to the man.

Murray and James for F1 and the voice of Brands Hatch Brian Jones a very charismatic chap with a voice I grew up with. I have to mention Arthur Debenham who for many years was the voice of Rallycross. I like Ben Edwards who is a lovely guy who cut his commentary teeth doing the small clubbies at Brands that Brian didn't do.
Brian Jones may have been ok some time ago, but for the last 4 years I have been at the Formula Ford Festival he has been awful, especially the podium and presentation interviews, poor old beggar..
Carlton Kirby, disliked by many is absolutely in his element on the Daker rally. Perhaps i forgive him as the scenery is so incredibly spectacular.
Julian Ryder and Toby Moody get my vote for Moto GP, just brilliant.
Martin Brundle, absolutely top notch and straight talking.
Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhook very capable sidekicks unlike Paul De Boring.
Croft = retard.

I haven't heard of either of them TBH.
When and what did they commentate on ?
Both commentated on ‘The Great Race’ throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. When and what did they commentate on ?
"Great race" is the Indy 500 ,isn't it ?

Murray as a kid.
The biking lads who used to do car wars were a great double act.
Currently, the radio me mans boys are streets ahead of anything else. Hindu and gg are a great leading, but the other guys slot in perfectly.
Of the Eurosport mob, haven is good, but a lot of the others could take the drama outnof a last lap battle for the championship.

Johnny Higham- and I'd be amazed if anybody remembers him . As a schoolkid in the late 60s , catching buses , hitching and walking to circuits like Rufforth and Croft, he was the first voice I heard at live motor sport.
Recently , Marcus Pye can wear his learning a tad heavily, but his knowledge is encyclopaedic.
TV guys - Brundle and Couldthard both smart , insightful and articulate, and it's impossible not to love Murray. Hunt ? Not so much as his prejudice and dislikes (especially against Patrese) was inexcusable

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Mike Raymond or Garry Wilkinson yet?
I haven't heard of either of them TBH.When and what did they commentate on ?
There are a number of notable exceptions from the list, but then this is 2018, not 1990 when there would have been a number of names mentioned that i doubt many on here have even heard of - Peter Scott-Russell anyone?
Anyway Raymond was one of the very best and a lot of people learnt and honed their trade listening to Mike and his team. Many also forget the Channel 7 Aus were one of the leading lights in the birth of proper in-car cameras. Imagine it is the mid 1980's and you are used to seeing things a week or more behind when suddenly not only are you able to watch one of the Worlds great races from Australia live, but also the commentators are having a laugh and a joke with Jim Ricards as he's flat in top down the Conrod... Not only that, but as he passes another car the camera turns to track the car being overtaken. Epic.
