Yeah quite common with the US sports. The quiet periods usually mean that the live broadcaster has thrown back to their main sports network channel for updates on other sports like the NHL, etc, or alternatively there's a period of US only advertising that can't be broadcast overseas smile

Its a shame the in car does not show the drivers hands on the wheel and the steering input, we have seen this in previous years Daytona 500 and then you get a real appreciation of driver skills controlling the car sliding on the limit at close to 200 mph - whilst just a few feet from the nearest car and the concrete walls - awesome driving.

Lets see if cautions breed cautions then.

Hope a Ford can win. Toyota money and the new Chevy might mean slim pickings for them.

That was shaping up for a great last 7 laps. Shame.

The noises on the replays. Jesus. 6 cars left on lead lap.

Could do with a replay of what happened in that last lap.

Lol, it's like touring cars, but more.

He literally just punter off the leader to win. I'm guessing that's normal, given the reactions from comms.

What ? Winner pushed the leader off half a lap from the end, and gets no penalty?

Classy move from the rich kid.

Commentators never really criticise NASCAR or drivers, not like Martin Brundle, David Coulthard etc in F1 they are too on-brand worried about damaging sponsors. Put #daytona500 on twitter search and most of tweets are negative about the finish. Suspect it's the same on Reddit as well.

Self policing, Almirola will likely be repaying the favour whenever he gets half a chance

Different world!

This is the first time I've really watched NASCAR. I'm quite befuddled. Its kind of more like WWE than professional competitive motorsport.

Couldn't believe it on the last lap where the leader gets completely spun around by the eventual winner and everyone is talking as if he did a great move and ran a great race?!

Hmm, think there is enough other motorsport I like to satisfy me, it's not for me but I gave it a fair chance.

I echo your whole comment.

I went to NFL at Wembley a few years ago and wondered why there was one man waving frantically on the side lines for most of it. Turns out he was there to tell the referee when they should stop play to go to a commercial break.

I feel like the safety car appearing was exactly the same and it was more of a entertainment package sculpted to suit the sponsors rather than a race series.

Some btcc driver could learn a few new bump to pass moves from this though.

no, switches to Premier sports after this although Freesports are showing some other NASCAR support races. there was a £1 subscription for a couple of months offer going but cannot find it now.

And Dillon's attitude is, even if he gets a season's worth of payback he's still won the Daytona 500 so who cares.

Redneck nutters.
Agree, there only a little away from tyre shredding blades sticking out of the wheel hubs or dropping a gallon of Tar out the back of the car. Its cartoonish.

The thing to remember is that although it’s very fast and high tech (in its own anachronistic way) it is Stock Car racing, and is ultimately the pinnacle of the sort of stuff you see at Arena Essex rather than being a big budget touring car championship where the cars only turn left.

Would you have done the same? I understand it's considered bad form to give an opponent a tap in order to overtake in BTCC, though some seem to get away with it....
