Agree - but one little niggle - a typical Focus/Astra /Gold is doing 17/18 sec ss 1/4 these days .20 secondsos more 1300 Escort territory . And I've seen a stock Golf R do it in high 12s . It's shocking - that time should be the preserve of something with at least a smallblock Chevy .
True. Golf Rs are really quick to be fair, bear in mind a V8 vantage will only do 12.8ish as will a new mustang. Been a great day here, 4 top fuel cars running over 300mph, jet car doing 308, 4th fastest time in history on a top fuel bike and some MASSIVE personal bests. The new concrete track is starting to work

That top fuel bike run was amazing yesterday.Been a great day here, 4 top fuel cars running over 300mph, jet car doing 308, 4th fastest time in history on a top fuel bike and some MASSIVE personal bests. The new concrete track is starting to work
Watched a bit today but it was hot at times.
The events I anticipated most hotly each year are the Goodwood Revival and Members’ Meeting. I just love watching racing around that circuit - it’s super fast and just seems to promote great racing. The grids are always fantastic and watching top drivers drifting through Fordwater gives me goosebumps every time.
I love historics in general and Chateau Impney has become a season highlight. Hillclimbing in general is just awesome. Completely free of regulation and such a challenge. Watching Trevor Willis up Shelsley Walsh is properly special.
Sports car and GT racing is probably where my heart lies in the professional ranks. Still somewhere you can hear different engine notes. I love the ebb and flow of an endurance race. In January I sat up at the very top of the Daytona grandstand at 4.30am with the entire stadium to myself as the field poured underneath my feet at 200mph. Magic!
In terms of stuff I get to attend less regularly but love on the telly, MotoGP and IndyCar are my absolute faves. I was glued to the telly throughout Indy this year. We went to the 500 last year and it was hands down the best motor race I’ve ever seen. 871 overtakes during the 200 laps. Bloody hell.

Have not seen it in person, but on the screen it looks mega : Stadium Super Trucks !

fk me, that looks dangerous for everyone involved - drivers, marshalls, and spectators.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbS7zMY2M3o
Probably the only safe way to "consume" that is to watch it on TV, however if I wanted to organise a family day out to watch it in the UK, do they race here?
"Awesome" is so overused but never more pertinent.
Another fan of tractor pulling - also

Swamp buggy racing looks suitably mad too:

Hill Climbs
Of the events I've attended (BTCC / MotoGP / BSB / WSB) over the years, the Loton Park hill climb is fantastic.
The track is quite long for a hill climb, and is unutterably pretty. Pick a spot amongst the trees, take a picnic, and enjoy everything from insane single seaters to fast road spec cars hammering up the hill as the engine sounds bounce off the trees.
Then wander down to the bottom of the hill to gawp at the cars close up.

For all of those sayin Hill Climbs - did anyone see Robert Kenrick at Shelsley Wash on 3rd June
Robert drives a GWR Raptor BMW (1000cc)
For the rest of us in the up to 1100 single seaters it's a bit of a reality check..
It's a brilliant class though, great fun and the loudest cheers when Robert broke the 25 second mark were probably from the rest of us in it!
Not that we take great pleasure in beating as many of the big engine stuff as possible..
And Loton is indeed something special, but then again so is sitting in the front row of the seats, crossing corner, Shelsley.. big single seater going past a few meters away at 130mph.

Only been hillclimbing once and that was at Loton. Can thoroughly recommend it. Was a strange day in some respect. No BS, no big trailers, no garages, complete pit access, no gravel traps, catch fencing or grandstands, and yet you’re feet away from some of the quickest racing cars there are. Lovely laid back atmosphere in wonderful countrysideFor the rest of us in the up to 1100 single seaters it's a bit of a reality check..

I attended my first-ever hill climb (Goodwood FOS apart) at Chateau Impney last summer, then for good measure followed up with VSCC at Prescott and the MSA championship at Shelsley Walsh.
It's quite something to see the likes of Trevor Willis hitting 150mph up that narrow, twisty Shelsley hill.
These events were a world (several worlds!) apart from my first NASCAR experience at Atlanta this February, and all the better for it.

Highlight of the year has been WEC at Silverstone though I've gone off WEC the past year or so.
Prototypes, GTs, V12 rumbles, V8s (damn, I miss the Chevy Corvettes), flat sixes.
Best place to watch would be to cross the bridge on Hangar Straight and watch by the banking and every other lap you see cars go 3-wide as they came of the complex with the noise reverberating as they went under the bridge.

I can't get excited about motorbikes but then F1 does nothing for me either. I'd say rallying although it's changed a lot since the days I used to actually get to spectate.
I watched the last Lombard RAC rally and first two Network Q RAC rallies back in the day when the event was spread over a few days in England and Wales. Had some great memories of the banter and support from other spectators (especially the mad Scandinavians) as well as some hairy moments of hearing the marshals whistle and diving for cover in hedges. Colin McRae kicked up a large stone which deflected off my knee cap at one point and I had to hobble back through snow filled fields to get to my car as I was a tight student who didn't pay for the official parking!
Really exciting to watch and you could race to the next stage over great B roads to see the leader pack come through again.
