I think I spotted a refuelling episode then a quick squirt of liquid rinsing. They might have their own Verstappen in that Herta rookie chap.
Bear in mind the fuel tanks only hold 70litres. A lot due to safety on ovals...don’t want a lot of fuel with a 220mph crash into a concrete wall. Plus it does spice up the racing strategy wise because the tyres have limited life there’s no point in fuelling for a whole race

And yet they cope perfectly well on bumpy street circuits that would shake F1 cars to pieces....

Bloody good race so far. It appears you can actually overtake around a tilkadrome
Softer setup for a street circuit, on a high aero load circuit they clearly don't have the suspension sophistication required to maintain the aero platform and have compliance.

An F1 car would be fine on a bumpy road course, you just tune the suspension to suit.

Maybe, but I’m sure teams like Penske, Andretti and Ganassi who have decades of experience know how to set up dampers properly....

They may be a spec part with limited scope to tune. I dunno, but they look bloody awful. biggrin

Shorter wheelbase would make it twitchy too, they are between 500-800mm shorter than an F1 car but almost the same width.

DW12
wheelbase - (2,984–3,086 mm)
width - 1,924 mm

F1 examples from 20`18
Red Bull (shortest) - 3550mm
Mercedes (longest) - 3726mm
width - (max allowed) 2,000mm

And I think the F1 cars are longer this year.

Plus downforce is significantly less in an Indycar

I disagree. Been racing it for a few years and it’s created some great racing. I’m sure Dallara know what they’re doing tho :-p

Pato O'Ward is really showing Chilton up as a completely talentless pay driver. I know he is, but like a really, really useless driver. Same car, Chilton with 50 Indycar races, O'Ward with 1 and a half.

I’m enjoying the race, but why don’t they bother with enforcing track limits? Turn 19 is a complete joke!

To be fair the way they enforce track limits in F1 is a constant irritation but because I know there are no track limits I;m fine with it.

By the way, if you download the Indycar app and sign in (literally just an email addess/Google login), you can get access to a driver tracker circuit map / live timing etc (just taken this screenshot).

That accident happened as a direct consequence of having no run off limit.

Closed pits under yellows. Wouldn’t have changed anything mind you

He's taken advantage of it in the past and it's not as if it's a new thing either.
