Bus went a few years ago when they built a proper control tower.

You'd think that sometimes from some of the more paranoid ramblings I've read . But we are a small country and we have - count 'em -
Castle Combe ,Thruxton, Brands . Snetterton , Cadwell, Mallory, Donington, Silverstone, Trac Mon , Oulton , Croft and Knockhill - and now Lydden's back in the foid .

Read about the huge mileage some US racers have to do to their nearest track and we are well served ...

Motor sport would be in a far stronger position if more people actually turned up - I attend a lot of events and the only ones I go to that see serious numbers are Goodwood , Silverstone Classic and BTCC . The rest of the time I assume that some folk are too busy posting about how we are all doomed rather than actually going to events .
And Pembrey

Quite a few years ago the larger circuits were considering banning spectators at smaller events, as the money from the gate didn't cover the cost of the men on the gates and the numerous security, who in one of the stands at Silverstone outnumbered the me and the crowd of 2.

Anglesey is Trac Mon . I was having a Welsh moment . Olivers Mount- hmmm yes , but I wasn't including bikes. I have marshalled both hillclimbs and rallies there but if I include speed and rally venues I will break the internet !

If this sort of thing intrigues do look out for Motorsport Explorer - a wonderful book which lists every venue in UK which has been used for speed events and racing . My home county of Yorkshire has had 8 race venues in total and not a lot of people know that

As a fellow Yorkshireman I might just do that. I raced club stuff at Lydden 15 years ago and didnt even know it stopped holding events, it’s a real shame when circuits close (to get get built on) but with so many UK circuits they do need supporting - bikes included.

Lydden is my local circuit at only 8 miles away via main roads or 6 miles via the lanes .
When I moved back to the area in 1990 it was a very busy venue and one year I marshalled on 52 days and didn't do all the events .
The biggest changes in Lydden happened when Tom Bissett sold the place to Maclaren .
The circuit was closed and inactive for much of the period while the wrangling over the proposed development of the new Maclaren complex and the 3.5km circuit/ testing facility. This killed any relationship with the clubs and the type of events that would be staged in the future were very different to what had happened in the past.
I think racing would have been limited to 32 days over 16 weekends and a limited amount of weekday testing.
This was followed by the recession and the loss of several clubs and a major shuffle within the BARC .
Followed by the loss of European Rallycross.
Pat Doran and his team are trying hard and I know that dealing with the local authority is extremely hard work .
They are planning many activities apart from the regular motorsport and are continuing their activities with local cycling clubs which have been ongoing for many years , they also have hosted the local police force for training exercises over many years .
Ballooning events , craft fairs and music events are also proposed .
Lyddens location doesn't help , it's a long slog for those from the West and anyone north of Watford added to having to battle with the holiday of cross channel traffic .
It did hold the UK record for entrants at a non international race meeting for many years .
300+ competitors over a weekend made for a busy time.

I think live televised events would boost more interest in club circuits and events.
Never been to Lydden, but fond memories of Murray commentating on Rallycross there.

I’m a firm believer in taking away the stranglehold that F1 has on motorsport, and promoting the amazing entertainment that lower levels of the sport can provide.

Me too- as I said above there is shedloads of stuff to enjoy - from Santa Pod via Prescott to club racing at Cadwell but for reasons which escape me, lots of people opt to watch the yawn inducing tedium of TV motorsport.from the comfort of their front room sofa .
