Given the timescale, it doesn't sound great, I agree, but surely better than no progress at all?

Come on Alex.

I don't want this to sound insensitive as I'd love to see him back - but it reads as if he's well enough to leave ICU but that's it. "he is currently assisted and treated with semi-intensive care".

That quote is in reference to the August statement though not the current one. It's a poorly written article (perhaps translated) and I had to read it a couple of times to get the timelines straight.

Former Formula One and Indy racing star Alex Zanardi has taken significant steps in his recovery from a devastating handbike crash in June this year, Italian newspapers have reported.

Yes finally something a little positive! This in particular sounds promising to me - "Doctors are reported to be confident that Zanardi will recover the majority of his brain functions after his latest step forward". After the hell he's been through I just want him to have some normality and quality of life again.

Good on the one hand but an indication of just how serious his injuries are, sounds like a devastating impact.

That does seem more positive. Everything to this point has been very much open to interpretation but this seems a little more hopeful.

He really is yes

Not just in terms of being resilient, but also appears to be a genuinely decent human into the bargain.

Sounding like he's making some progress. Obviously not having an easy time, but if anyone can get through it, it's him.

Such a cruel turn of events. I hope he and his family have some comfort now he's back home again.
