As is often the way these days, I had to wait until last night to finally catch up with Race 3. Oh my word! That's why we watch motorsport. Hard, fair, wheel-to-wheel action on the very limit; and where "your guy" wins!

In what has been the sttest of years that really put a smile on my face.

Well done Ollie/Wookie - let's hope it is the first of many!

Seems a bit unfair if that’s the case, everyone was doing it. Need to bring the gravel nearer the track.
You then get the issue of cars being trapped in the gravel leading to more Safety Car/Race stopages

It's always a compromise on tracks that hold top level bike racing. Gravel is a bad idea on a fast corner like that for them.

That's interesting, what is it about gravel that doesn't work for bikers?

I dunno about bikes but they tend not to like gravel for cars in highspeed corners not just because they have a tendency to beach in it but also they are much more likely to roll over in it, ask me how I know! hehe

Presumably:

Fast bike + gravel = BIG OUCHIE for squishy, human rider.

Riders going through a gravel trap get far more broken bones etc than they do sliding on a tarmac surface. Wayne Rainey is one I remember vividly getting the worst of a gravel trap in what was a fairly mild crash that we see people getting up from all the time these days.

It's the digging in of limbs and the forces that puts on the body that is the big problem with gravel.

Hello - sorry, this isn't related to the thread but I wondered if anyone out there knew if a clip exists of Colin Mcrae actually saying "if in doubt, flat out" ??

THANK YOU

I've held my tongue for long enough, I need a rant.

Firstly, good work wookie, fantastic result, well done.

Next up, good to see Butcher was unhurt. Another victim of the Matt Neal racing style of agression, typical of the arrogant tosspot prick that he is.

Secondly, those fking commentators on ITV need to ps off. Addison is just about tolerable, but Harvey is a jibbering idiot. He can never get his words out, he mixes up names of drivers, cars, teams, everything. He couldnt even get his left and right worked out when he was talking about damage on the side of Oliphant. Surely they can find someone better than a guy who one the championship 28 years ago and hasn't been in a touring car for 18 years.

Lastly, what is the actual point of the same collection of drivers that do nothing but end up at the back and crash. Guranteed every race or qual session, it's a yellow flag. And it's always the same clowns who cant even keep their car on track. It's almost comical how often the same names constantly do nothing but crash. Sersiouly, it's the same names every week;- Crees, Hamilton, Neate and Jelley, just ps off back to go karts or something. I'm fed up of having things interrupted because you're in the gravel trap or tyre wall. AGAIN. Who is even sponsoring/paying these clowns? I feel sorry for their teams who work hard to give them cars that they just stuff into a wall every week.

Rant over.

Don't know which racing you've been watching but Hamilton and Creese have had endless issues with their cars so have barely been on track the last two meetings so haven't been causing flags. Even when they are (apart from the first meeting at Donington) they haven't been causing anymore flags than anyone else and a lot less in some cases. The whole "Hamilton in the gravel" thing is way out of hand and just doesn't reflect reality at all.

At the end of the day anyone with an International C license and the budget can approach a team for a drive. If there are better drivers out there then they need to work harder on getting their sponsorship sorted out.

With regard to Butcher's crash, did you notice how close that flag Marshall came to being wiped out?

He quite understandably abandoned his flagging platform when he saw what was heading in his direction, but within a second of him jumping off it it was knocked to pieces. It looked like it was built too close to ( or even touching) the Armco, which transmitted the shock with a great deal of force.

Something similar happened to me when flagging at a European Touring Car race at Brands in the Nineties. An M3 turned left at Paddock and hit our post at unabated speed. I was knocked into the air. I still can't remember all of it.
