WTF was Ollie Mellors thinking on that crest or was it a wrong note ? Never seen a car so high over there .
Surely a wrong or misheard note. It's about 500 yards into stage 1 of the day, something went wrong, but the car stood up to the accident superbly. It's good news there were no serious injuries. We had a great couple of days marshalling the service area on Friday and Halfway on Sat., Halfway included soldiers having a gun battle during a live rally stage, that was pretty surreal. The R5 cars are immense to watch, the R2's are impressive as well, there was a really good mix of cars across the whole field. Really good event.
Estonia predictions for this weekend?
Very very dusty day. still haven't got the dust out of the interior. Had a very interesting chat with a gentleman accompanying the media team around on how good/bad the current R5/Rally 2 cars are. his sum up basically was -
i20 - Best of the engines, everything else around it is st.
Polo - more development will make it as good as what the Polo WRC was, the car to have if the budget is there.
Fiesta - great allrounder as always, needs more engine development to be truly series winning.

I was radio car on a Junction 7 of Halfway, where some Snipers had decided to base themselves! that was very interesting the first time they let off a round Very very dusty day. still haven't got the dust out of the interior. Hi Ryan, I was part of the Border Motor Club marshalling team you met on Saturday. We were with you on junction 7, it was my daughter who kept jumping every time the sniper let off a round, I've already forgotten your call sign, was it Brecon2?? I spent Monday cleaning the Discovery, dust everywhere!! sanf said:

I was looking at some in car of SS4, and you can just see the Army instructor sitting next to the snipers if you know where to look.
Interesting overview of the R5 cars. Thanks for that.
Tanak to win in Estonia, his luck has got to change soon. Could be a really interesting battle - if all the drivers finish then Katsuta could be hard pressed to get 5th this time. Really looking forward to it.

I was out Marshalling on a Vintage Sports Car club night navigational rally a few years back. We had a control in Catterick Ranges. Just before the cars arrived a Land Rover turned up with a couple of MP's in, they asked us what we were doing, so we explained and they said they were not aware of the event. (I'm not surprised I don't think Landmarc talk to the military!!).
Just then the adjacent field lit up with a lot of machine gun tracer fire (I have no idea if they were blanks or live). The first Car approached and it appeared (although probably didn't) to go right underneath the tracer, rocking up at our control it was a Citroen traction Avant, looking for all the world like the French resistance escaping the Germans!. It continued most of the night with various authentic looking cars re-enacting a second world war film!
The crews just took it in their stride as if it was expected!

Rallying is absolutely fked in this country. I actually think we have to do something completely different and reinvent the sport as EV only, running events that support that approach. It’s going to happen eventually around the rest of the world so let’s get a head start.Oh dear - cancelled; pretty poor from both Forestry England, and especially MSUK......who aren't doing enough to help the sport....
It’ll be st initially but existing rally drivers can do tarmac or SVs leave the forests to the batt(er)y boys?
