RIP Hannu. slightly before my time, that however hasn't lessened your impact.

A man of great skill, he made it look easy. By the time Group B came along he was getting on a bit, but used his experience to maximise the advantage the quatro brought. He had a great career and was highly respected in and out of the car, you cant do any better than that.

RiP Hannu.

I was an 11yo kid when I first encountered Hannu Mikkola, storming through RAC Rally special stage Sutton Park in my hometown in a Quattro that just sounded sooooo good, I was immediately a fan.

I saw a great YouTube tribute from Michele Mouton yesterday, made me laugh by her saying that she liked to party but he was so dedicated he was always in bed by 9pm, but still a great friend of hers.

Do you have a link to that vid please? I’ve searched YouTube but I can’t find it.

I can confirm that Michelle did indeed like to Party, 1983 Audi sport rally after rally party she was up there all night on the dance floor smile

Here you go :

I think it's one of the best tributes to a wonderful individual, and an incredible rally driver of who it has oft been said, was a true gentleman. RIP Hannu.

It's sorry state of affairs when a website/forum such as PH isn't sufficiently up to speed with motorsport and those who used to compete in it, to be able to publish a tribute in a timely manner, and without prompting, when such rally giants pass away.

I agree, but that just a sign of the times, and an evolution of the site and the people on it (but more noticable for us old gits who have been around here for many years)

A remarkable career (and did well to survive the 1980s) and had a huge impact across the sport. RIP.
