BTCC Season Starts: Thruxton May 8-9
Discussion
Jess Hawkins takes Andy Neate's seat for the Snetterton rounds at his behest, in order for him to take time for himself following the aftermath of the Thruxton collision.

So Neate is personally paying for her drive at Snet? Wow.
it's a PR stunt. A way of taking the pressure off him as everyone appears to hate him (because he's a bit of a charlatan, and not much of a driver) He's hoping that this will put him in a better light. It might, but he also needs to change his ways.Dynion Araf Uchaf said:

I’m not privy to the contract and I doubt Wookie will fancy copy pasting from his, but I am fairly sure it will basically say;
- in the case he cannot compete due to force majeure / medical reasons etc, the team will try and find a substitute driver and if they can, part reimburse his season’s fee
- in the case of him choosing to sit a round out, the onus is probably on him to fill the seat so as not to jeopardise the TBL and if he can recover any costs then fine but the team are getting paid either way
So whilst he’s probably not recouping anything out of handing the car to Jess Hawkins, it’s not really costing him anything either I wouldn’t say.

Ultimately he’s chosen to pay for someone’s drive who otherwise wouldn’t be, the team easily could have fielded a paying driver for a one off to make it as economical as possible for Andy, but he’s chosen to take the hit and give the drive away.
I think it’s best I stay out of this conversation from now on though. Regardless what you think of Andy, he literally now can’t do anything, even a positive thing, without people turning it into another reason to attack him online.

He’s not shone himself in glory at times and I’ve said it before, in my experience there’s plenty of people around the sport that are more deserving of stick than Andy.
Some of them actually seem to be or have been disproportionately popular for some reason! Perhaps he should have been employing their PR teams up until now!

That’s a fair point! (Unfortunately) The ‘sport’ needs more Wookies! Some of them actually seem to be or have been disproportionately popular for some reason! Perhaps he should have been employing their PR teams up until now!
