Steve McQueen, second at the 1970 Sebring 12 Hours sports car race with Peter Revson, although opinions vary as to how much driving he actually did. McQueen and Jackie Stewart were lined up for the Le Mans 24 Hours but his insurers got twitchy sphincters and vetoed it.

Fairly certain it was a 106xsi in about 1993

Ronnie oSullivan did some racing then promptly slagged the sport off. beefy Botham did a race but I don’t think one offs count in this thread.

Billy Cotton was a regular at Brooklands pre-war. He was a very famous band leader.

Roy James - decent racing driver but probably more infamous as the getaway driver for The Great Train Robbery.

James Garner - following his appearance in the movie "Grand Prix" he became quite enthusiastic about motor sport and had a few drives.

Theo Paphitis (Dragons Den)

There were a series of celebrity races at the Silverstone Classic for several years, in both Abarth 500's and Morgans. A few just took part and didn't take it any further, but Rick Parfitt Jnr was one of them and he's stuck with it becoming British GT Champion and BTCC driver.

Barry Sheene used to race in the touring car Championship.
The old joke was...that he had trouble getting his knee down on the left handers.
( There was a Cartoon depicting that too)

Valentino Rossi: Very quick in a car... but not sure if he’s actually competed in a race?
( I think that is part of his future plans... could be interesting)

He's done quite a bit of rallying - saw him compete at Rally GB in a Focus WRC back in 2008

James Martin had a crack at the Millie Miglia once, I remember there was a documentary about it on telly. Terminally ill-prepared if I recall correctly.

Jimmy Greaves was in the Ford "Works" team on the 1970 London-to-Mexico (finished 6th).
