I did not realise that entry to a meeting for a driver means you get tickets too, are you sure about that, never heard of it before.

It happens in some short ovals aswell, and is open to much abuse sadly.

I would guess the best time to do freebies is summer time, nice weather, decent meeting, every venue is nice when it's like that, even bloody Silverstone!

Yep. Typically 4 adult tickets per entry, I had 4 last week for CSCC at Snetterton

Bloody hell that is a fair amount of lost revenue to venues, but I guess has been the way for years, I would also guess a few of those people would maybe not go if they had to pay!

We honestly have so much going on during the day that those tickets aren't used for spectating and one is for the driver anyway. You're paying north of £400.00 to enter a club race, so a few tickets to share out between helpers and family is reasonable.

It may sound a lot, but when you think a lot of drivers will have at least one mechanic, somebody to do the pit signs etc that's 3 of your 4 done.

not sure the tickets are FOC. I think we pay for them in amongst the entry fee.

The BARC Midland Sprint at Cadwell this Saturday is free to attend. I’m working or I might have made the effort.
You would be watching them set up for the rally. The sprint was last week.
Heh, last week, this week, who’s counting? laugh

Been like this since forever

Next you'll be asking for Marshals and Offficials to pay for entry !

Confirmed - and am genuinely surprised Luke didn't know that . If you know someone in an organising club there's often free tickets going.

No.

AS I say i have very little to do with circuit racing and always felt that perhaps a mechanic would get in, but not numerous people. It has not really been on my radar for years.

Very little to do with circuit racing but such a strong opinion on what should and shouldnt be done.

Do you voice your opinions on short circuit operations so strongly?

Absolutely.

there are just as many issues, indeed in recent times there has been talk of strikes believe it or not as in the top categories drivers start money ( I know yes, 50 quid a meeting plus 3 mechanics) has not gone up for years! So a lot going on there.

Loss of stadiums, noisy cars, expensive cars, tyres, loss of fans, it is all the same sort of stuff but different topics.

Where do all these "opinions" come from then?

I wanted to go to the Arette 'Impossible' Hill Climb in France but it was the week before I was there! Where's the UK equivalent held?
Red Marley Hillclimb

Every motorsport enthusiast should see this at least once. Stand halfway up the hill for best effect. Mental.
Is it still running? Cant find any info on it..

From watching many years ago and realising there were better things to watch, I still go occasionally, as many others, got into into the historic thing, but quickly became fed up with that at the top level, lower level is great stuff like VSCC, lower level HSCC, but your Classics. Goodwoods, sorry it is over priced and very busy for what it is. And you also get a heck of a lot of drivers way out of their depth, some very good ones too, but some who really should not be driving cars and only are because they are rich, that is NOT the case in a lot of stuff I watch now thankfully.

In fifty plus years of attending every form of motorsport from bangers and drag racing to NASCAR and F1 , I have seen very little better run , more enjoyable, or with a more eclectic array of machinery than Goodwood Members' Meeting. The standard of driving is extremely high - with the odd duffer (like nearly every other form of racing ) - and the access all areas policy for the paddock is wonderful.

It is undeniably expensive but so what? Surely I can spend what I can afford to , on what I enjoy without needing to justify it? .

Of course you can, just don't expect everyone to agree that is anything like good value or worth the money. I think it is preposterous, but I am in the minority it seems.

Goodwood has a special in lots of peoples hearts, and it did mine until it became a bun fight with tens of thousands of people jostling and being ride and ignorant, lots of cars driving around very slowly an d the odd one being driven well. The Members meeting is odd, don't you pay to be in a club or something and then pay more for tickets? #

If y=that floats your boat fair enough, but regarding this thread there is very little likelihood that that venue is going to go anywhere if people are prepared to spend 100 quid watching demos.

I have just looked, 79 quid to be a member, and 96 quid on the day, sorry but you have got to be nuts to think is anything other than robbery.

But as I say I am in the minority obviously.

Let me give you a reality check based on experience and not prejudice . I don't go to the Revival any more as the Rupert quota , fancy dress hoorays and sheer numbers made the excellent on track action harder to enjoy. But I mentioned the Members Meeting which is far less busy and has a crowd almost entirely made up of kindred spirits. Away from the chicane and Madgwick , you can often have 50 yards of banking to your self . The view at St Mary's is one of the best I have ever seen of cars being driven at and over the limit . It is mesmerising.

As for driving standards, I am sorry to be blunt but you really are talking utter nonsense . Of course there are a few slower guys - just like in every other form of racing I've been to then - but the sort of drivers the MM attracts in number are seriously top drawer . I've seen include many F1 drivers and Le Mans heroes as well as the best of domestic racing talent like Shedden , Plato, Jake Hill, Andy Priaulx and lesser known but very fast drivers like Jon Milicevic , Jon Buncombe and Gary Pearson - amongst many others .

Cost - I can afford it so why beat myself up that I can go to the banger racing and save myself (quite) a few quid ? What do I do, watch it on telly and enjoys the warm glow of having a healthier bank balance ? Sod that . And in relative terms , it isn't that bad. My OH and I treated ourselves to a long weekend in London last year -a long postponed post Covid treat . A gig at the Royal Festival Hall , opera at Covent Garden and a few exhibitions were fantastic fun , if not as much as a good race meeting can be , and if you think Goodwood is pricey I better not tell you what the weekend cost. And yeah we could've gone and seen a turn at the Working Mens Club down the road and saved a grand . But I am bloody glad we didn't.....
