A question if I may?

Spa & of course Le Mans seem tailor made for the WEC with the larger fields, multiple classes and the need for the Hyper Cars to stretch their legs so to speak.

So why don't they run a race at the Nurburgring?

I know they are set up for the Langstrecken / Endurance series races but WEC doesn't go there?

(WEC newbie so forgive me if this is a dumb question).

Might be down to rights and fees asked, Nurb famously turned F1 down years ago as they asked too much, they make a fortune from the 24H and truck events, plus concerts, it is a business run to stay open, nit to flash make money as places like Silverstone do, make a bunch for a few years then go back to being broke.

I would say WEC asks too much money, simple as that. And even now what not the crowds to warrant it, hence why Dumperstone dropped it.

If you look at so called big series calendars these days they are largely full of events where the series goes as they are the people prepared to pay the most, not necessarily where they want to or should or even ought to go!

WEC in my mind should be in Germany, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes in a way, they should be in the UK. but those venues refuse to pay.

There were a couple of Group C World Sportscar races on the full Ring, the last being in 1983. 40 years ago. However, the cars are much too quick for the standard of track safety.

Do you mean the GP circuit or the Nordschleife? For the GP circuit it'll basically be down to money.

The Nordschleife is only a Grade 3 circuit so there's no way WEC could ever visit and, as the person above said, it would be far too fast and dangerous for modern prototypes. Also 36 cars would look a bit spread out around there...

Question perfectly answered, cheers folks and yes it was the Nordschleife I was thinking of.

I was watching a Youtube video of the 919 steaming around the full circuit and thought it was epic.

So looking forward to Le Mans this year.

Just watched the last hours of Sebring IMSA, utterly mental, some crazy driving, it does seem sometimes like a 11 hour practice followed by an hour long qualifying session!

Nasty incident at the WEC at Portimao, Porsche cup car from the support race has cleared the fence and landed in the seats, don’t think there’s spectators hurt , fingers crossed

Is it live on Eurosport this weekend?

Yes, both qualifying and the race.

I have invested £6.99 for a month of Discovery+ so I can watch this weekend and the Spa round in a couple of weeks.

I think this place might be batting out of its crease a little right now! MotoGP had some safety issues early this year, riders injured etc, and now this, might be time for them to have a look at some aspects of the track as accidents seem to be happening with nasty outcomes.

I’m sat looking at where Pol had his crash now and the barrier there is ridiculously close and for no obvious reason, I think today’s incident is likely to be a bizarre freak, the only thing that makes sense would be a stuck throttle or total break failure at the end of the start finish straight, can see why the car would have enough momentum otherwise, haven’t heard any eye witness reports though

There's some images and video of the accident here, extremely fortunate it happened on a Friday!

The only time you would have a crowd there at Portimao is F1 or MotoGP, WEC does not get a crowd which is why there is no round in the UK and it goes to places like this that pay hosting fees to stage it.

That is a picture that ought to send shivers through anyone linked to running f1 there as an f1 car wherever that is on track would be going much faster! freak or not. Brands Hatch long track viewing was partly ruined because of a freak accident, so anywhere else can be.

Looks like it has gone through the fence rather than over it. Will definitely sit a few rows further back next time I am in a stand...

Yes, through the fence, took about 3 hours to rebuild

Well it looks like another fight between the 2 Toyotas tomorrow. Porsche worryingly off the pace, Cadillac sounds fantastic and when joined by its mates will look and sound wonderful at Le Mans.

Against the odds the Vanwall looks stunning and has reasonable pace. Will try and get some photos tomorrow.

Looking forward to tomorrow, hopefully the race is closer than the qually pace.

IMSA this evening first. Hoping my maths is right and bits a circa 10pm BST start.

Going to have to buy the app, WEC on Eurosport is just adverts every 10 minutes with a bit of racing inbetween it truly is a woefully chocking way to cover an endurance race. You cannot follow anything.

I would not kind if it was every half hour or something but it is between 10 and 15 on the button for 6 hours? really? Pathetic really. LM is even worse sadly.

Discovery + has it ad free all the way. I can't watch on Eurosport with the ads either.

Yep, you just have to work out which is the 'Extra' channel that has the none-ads content (and last the whole race).
