The 2023 Season quietly kicking off today in Mexico. Season 9 would you believe. Qualifying at 15:40 on YouTube and the e-prix at 20:03 on YouTube and Eurosport 1 (UK times).



Events spanning two dates are double headers.

If you are a habitual TV motorsport viewer, Formula E isn’t always going to come and find you. You have to find it on YouTube, with some sessions broadcast on live TV and TV catch-up services. Click here for the UK ‘ways to watch’ page.

From the pre race chat the extra power overpowers the tyres so they'll be sliding around a bit.

3 circuits are subject to FIA safety reviews and 2 dates TBC. Hardly the most professional set up.

That off for Frijns was weird, maybe hit something on track, the car looked like it jumped up by itself.

This is the latest calendar:



The circuits that show 'Subject to FIA Review' in the initial calendar and 'Subject to Circuit Homologation' in the latest are first time visit street circuits, so nothing out of the ordinary.

Dennis drove outstandingly well yesterday, Wehrlein as well.

To be 7.5 s ahead in a spec series is phenomenal, especially give energy management requirements.

Hope it bodes well for him - have been following his career for years.

Actually a pretty good race.

The cars are definitely a handful.

They need more venues like Mexico, where the race takes place on a racing circuit.

I agree - some of the shorter circuits like Siverstone National would suit these cars now.

I couldn't believe how much faster they were off the line at the start - and that's without the front axle driving - how fricking quicker will they be if they ever switch that to drive mode?

Yeah they are still RWD aren't they, the front end drive is just there for brake regen?

Not bad yesterday ,but if only they could mask the shriek from the cars.Like being at the bumpercars.The attraction of motoracing is the thunderous engine noises ,so barring that some sort of futuristic humming noise would be better for E racing.
Why do the cars just stop after a minor accident? Must be due to safety reasons.
I think they need to chuck in a mandetory stop but I guess they are scared of the volatile effort heading back into the pits.
At least they have given up on all the wings. The bits sticking out on this latest car seem to make no difference if broken off.
That walking around and commentary team need to back off a bit. You would think they were doing radio.

Haven't watched Formula E for a while, hard to believe it's season 9 though! Not a bad race, these Gen3 cars look like a handful.

Might try and stick with it, but still some gimmicky stuff which isn't needed (Extra laps/attack mode - Just let the drivers use power as they want) and some poor commentary

I sort of agree with you on attack mode being gimmicky (a bit Mario Kart), but the added extra laps after a safety car period isn't unique to Formula E.
And, whilst it would be entertaing to watch the drivers race with no range anxiety it would go against the ethos of the formua in which power management is an intrinsic part of the race strategy.

But at least they've got rid of Fan Boost.

The drive through for a power spike seems harsh. From what I understand it isn't turning the power up on purpose, it's a momentary blip from something like running over a bump or a kerb with the accelerator pressed and the wheel is off the ground.

Attack mode is no more or less gimmicky than DRS or push-to-pass. In fact, it's somewhat trickier to plan / manage - the driver has to consciously commit to potentially losing places to engage it - DRS is just a button-push.

Both good races though - Wehrlein and Dennis a class above so far this year.

When they run normal race tracks you can see how far they have come. Its a nice warm up to the F1 season.
Will probably bail out once its city centre races.
I wish there was an alternative commentary as the murray walker act on the comms is pretty wearing alongside the shrill electric car whine.
The american seems to be able to communicate in a normal fashion.

It's no better or worse than BTCC, and better than almost everything else except IndyCar or F1 and there's no way the FIA is going to allow it match (or even exceed) F1.

Honestly, I prefer its slightly amateurish feel to the massively overdone chat show that is an F1 build up these days.
