i've seen a few clips of the superprix, but i don't recognise any of the roads, ok birmingham has changed a bit in 20 years, but i couldn't name one part of town. what/where was the circuit?

Despite what the naysayers say it seems revival hopes may not be all in vain either.

If only someone could start on the Friends of Sutton Park and the Lombard route planners too...

I raced it two years and they were very memorable racing occasions.
The whole of the centre of Birmingham had to put up with this huge inconvenience.
But they did and it was great. Big crowds, carnival atmosphere, so many involved.
The Paddock was in a wholesale fruit market; most of the circuit was lined with Armco so a huge amount of work had to go into the preparation, act of Parliament down.
F3000 were the starring formulae, Touring cars, Thundersports, Porsches backed them up.
Circuit was great and very slippery but plenty of room on the fast bits. Weather was so bad one year, we got rained off. Lots of incidence as I recall.
Street racing is just the best. To get anywhere, you really do have to get up close to the barriers, so it's a brilliant combination of speed and precision. I had marks on the door mirrors both side by the end. The noise and commotion through the city streets was LOUD. The crowds were on top of you, right there.
Lots of threads in Historic on 10/10ths. Bloody brilliant.

Fantastic! I went to Matthew Boulten Tech College so I recognise the roads; even drifted the hairpin island (badly) in my Capri.....those were great days. It was perfect for the midlands 'car town' at a confident time but not so relevant these days. The greens and HSE would never let it happen these days. Shame, a real shame.

it was in mainly in Highgate , postcodes B5 and B12 - and afaik its still the same

All the roads are still there - was just away from the area that was redeveloped a few years back.

As are the bulbs that spell out "Superprix" opposite Monaco House on the Bristol Road and the sinking points for the Armco throughout the markets and Chinatown area

ive driven that circuit ( as much as you can without driving the wrong way up a 3 lane carrigeway lol ) i used to goto the college at turn 7 ( matthew bolton )

unfortunately, im too young to have ever seen the racing there

I never went as i was very young. My father went to loads i have lots of old programes. I wish it was still running!
