Thank you to Jasper and fatboy69. That was very informative!
Do you have any photos from the Super Prix and the Motoring Festival?
It is funny to see Alan Jones doing that and it did say in some magazines that some drivers were tempted to lay some rubber around the streets of Birmingham!
I have some pix that'll need locating & scanning, mainly of the startline. I think they're the Festival. I presume you have had contact with Dave Lucas who had a lot to do with the event when he worked for B'ham Council ?Do you have any photos from the Super Prix and the Motoring Festival?

Listening to MWM tonight and AMR posted this link for pics he took around the 'circuit', he has said it's OK for me to share.

No photo's of the repaired wall at the bottom of Pershore Street, just before the old entrance to the markets, which is where David Hunt (i think it was him) stuck his F3000 car in?
I got one somewhere in the loft along with many others taken at the various 'On The Streets' & Super Prix meetings.
As a Brummie i have always been proud of the event particularly when you consider that so called 'better cities than Birmingham' have never been able to stage any kind of race around the street.
Great fun & it was a shame when they called a halt to any further races. It would have been good to have seen F1 cars racing around the streets of Birmingham.

I hadn't noticed before, but I see you've posted plenty of vids up on Youtube, it's good stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0d5XiXmq_A&fea...

Nice one lemanslegend
I remember that race almost like it was yesterday. I was 5 years old and remember that wet afternoon and absolutely gutted, turned on the telly and recognised Brum, the street furniture but more importantly racing cars...

Brilliant event- went to three I think. The sound of F3000s in confined city streets was amazing. The last one we saw was at Pershore street- when bloody Russell Spence tried to get the race stopped and wouldn't get out of his car. The very big Brummie crane driver swore back at him , hooked the crane on to the roll bar hoop and lifted the arms waving driver and his car 15' into the air. On the same corner you could also stand where you were literally touching the Armco, which drivers would graze on some laps before turning in. You really could see the whites of their eyes. Huge shame the event did not continue
I went to several of the first few, can't remember how many. The first one I went to was very wet I seem to remember.
I also remember the noise the Hondas made was very painful!
The support races I remember Included a one make Metro 6R4 race series, Thundersports, BTCC and the Porsche Club series (ISTR Tiff Needell in a works 928, I think, or was it TonyvDron?)
Wish they would brink it back now that the closed road legislation exists. BTCC around there would be, ermmm, interesting!

I went to the Superprix in '89 and '90 courtesy of a corporate invite from Compaq my Dad received. We were stationed above the pits in the Bristol street Ford Garage, above the F3000 cars, I think it was Apicella one year we were above and Eric van de Poele the next year. Also directly above the Prodrive M3's and saw DR, Sytner, Smith as well as Martin Donnelly around the back of the building.
Highlight for me was the 6R4 race especially as Tony Pond won.
The F3000 cars were bloody loud! One of the touring car races had the Labbatt's Sierras in them. I'm not quite sure how we got access to the pits actually as we were parked in a multi story about half a mile away. Must have been a bridge of something.
Is the roundabout hairpin the one where the A435 meets the Belgrave middleway near the PC world? I am in Brum a couple of days a week so know this bit and it kind of looks familiar from the tv coverage.

I can think of plenty far duller - typically one make series with single figure entries. FE has huge support, world class drivers, close racing and pretty sexy looking cars - but it seems to be compulsory for many to sneer at it . Yup , its soundtrack is muted but so what , most spec series cars sound pretty awful - F4 , Ginettas etc- and BTCC may be loud but it's a hideous noise.
I love the sound of a wailing 12 or bellowing smallblock V8 but motor sport is a broad church- I'd love to see racing back in Brum and whilst FE won't thrill like F3000 did I'd go and see it all right .
