I've been looking for somewhere within striking distance of London where I can take my sons karting. Most places seem to say 8 years or older, over 4' 2". My seven year old is about five inches short of that and won't be that tall when he is 8.

Is there anywhere I can take him now. Ideally I'd like to take the 5 year old as well but realise this might be asking too much.

Legoland Windsor?

Not karting, I know, but might be a good intro for the 5yo

The 5yo has a school trip to Legoland planned for the last day of term and is saying he doesn't want to go.

Why not try here :

www.karting.co.uk/

I looked around and there was a place near Swindon that does a karting 'scholarship'.. I took my nephew, but I think he was 9 or so at the time..

The Track Directory even allows you to enter a minimum age in the Search..

although putting in 8, brought up Brooklands and I would be wary of going there.. from personal experience

Not fast enough?

You have taught him well, Obi Wan.

They may have knowledge of other venues etc if they can't do it themselves though - very helpful people.

Lakeside Karting at Thurrock.

Also, Brentwood Karting runs an academy for children during the school holidays.

Haven't got web details but a search should throw them up.

I recommend going to Rye House circuit in Hoddesdon, Herts. It's just up the A10. I used to practice and race there, small kids went out all the time, and they have karts for hire. The Company is called Deavinsons and it's right by the canal and railway line.
