Ayrton was nicked in some variant of a 911 well into 3 figures on a motorway - the day when the copper strolled up to his door and asked "Who the bloody hell do you think you are, Nigel Mansell".

Jean Alesi is a known petrolhead
I remember seeing him driving out of Silverstone in a Skyline R34 after a test session.

I have seen Michael Schumacher in various Ferraris and a Fiat 500 Abarth
On Top Gear he said he likes the 500 Abarth but usually drives the 'family car' Fiat Croma.
.
He actually said he drove a family car "like" a Croma!

Kimi has an Enzo. He had it during his last year at McLaren and turned up at Woking in it. RD was not amused.
You've gotta love the guy for stunts like that.
Precisely. Using Ron's money to buy from their fiercest rival. Brilliant.

That's how Mansell and Alesi got their F40s and Irv got his 550....

When asked, f1 drivers will say whatever the sponsors want him to say- Ferrari is owned by fiat, schumi raced for fiat therefore he said he drives a fiat. Whether he does or not is anyones guess.
Never seen a Croma. He drives a Fiat 500 Abarth and various Ferraris. I know this because he lives in the next village to mine and also happens to be next door to my dad. Also occasionally see his car parked outside his office on the main road through the village.

In the olden days when drivers contracts were a bit less prescriptive, I understand that of 22 drivers on the grid, 21 had paid their own money for BMW E34 M5s (mostly in blue) according to a man I knew...

I think Alonso drove a Megane diesel, as it was "all the car he ever needed". Racing drivers generally aren't very interested in road cars.

I used to know someone whop worked for BMW UK. One day they had a call from the police saying that they had had a number of complaints one morning about a 3 series being driven fast and aggressively around some town (I forget which one now). The police had looked up the registration, and seen it belonged to BMW UK. My friend took the call, apologised, and went to look up who it had ben signed out by that day; the initials were J-PM.
