Tim Harvey drives an E46 M3.
Last time I saw him he was getting into a 997 GT2, however i suspect that might not actually be his since it was after a day instructing for Porsche hehe

I would imagine that was his prize from winning last years Cup championship. Thought part of the prize was a road car for a year?

Last time I saw him on the A34 he was E46 saddled. And BRDC badged on the rump (how I noticed him). I spoke to him at a monday night gathering at a pub once (as his girlfriend did my wife's hair) called the Rock of Gibraltar, and he is a bike nut, as well. Proper fella.

Agree, most of the guys i know drive normal cars, 80's f1 mate drives an old Merc.... for ref!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and we all remember pot smoking James Hunt and his Austin A40...

But in general they ARE car lovers but they never admit it. Is uncool.
A35 van actually for Mr Hunt. And he drove it because he said he could get oversteer at perfectly legal speeds on the road. He did have a 450SEL 6.9 too though, but that was sat on bricks for a number of years.

Its black, at his wedding last year he drove himself and his new wife away in it (rather than having a chauffeur).

Was talking about racers in general, MOST of the ones i know save it for the track and drive normal road cars, as 30/60/70mph is quite slow and you can't use the speed of fast cars anyhow on public roads
so people take them on track, but if you have access to racing cars what's the better choice?

You could spend 1 million in an Macca F1, or spend £10k on an old F3 car that would blow it away on track, so from a drivers point of view the better choice (even if you could afford such kit)

Bit of fun - http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2008/12/02/what-cars-do...

According to his biography, DC drives a Smart car as his daily drive.

I think Alonso drove a Megane diesel, as it was "all the car he ever needed". Racing drivers generally aren't very interested in road cars.
They are told to say this kind of thing, its just another piece of the marketing tool...just like being seen everywhere in their team gear, they are wanted to be seen as much as possible talking about and driving team road cars.

I think some of them are interested in road cars, Lewis seems pretty keen on getting his hands on that Mclaren F1 LM smile

They all obviously like their road cars, most have had and have supercars or fast cars, but probably spend most of their time either away from home or at work where its probably just a case of 'oh this is new in, i'll take that for a week'. Using the example of MS, sure he has used a Fiat or 2, but he obviously forgot to mention that was his FXX he did a lap in on Top Gear.

Ron promised Lewis the F1 if he won 2 out of 3 WDCs. Lewis managed 1/3. I guess the deal is off.

I read that it was if/when he wins his third WDC.

EDIT - just done a quick search and all sites are saying different things so who knows lol.

When asked, f1 drivers will say whatever the sponsors want him to say- Ferrari is owned by fiat, schumi raced for fiat therefore he said he drives a fiat. Whether he does or not is anyones guess.

If they race for a car compnay, rather then an indy then they will drive whatever they give them- Trulli in a Corolla, or Heidfeld in a 3 series (remember Button "accidentally" getting caught doing 155mph in the then-new BMW 330 in France a few years back? great publicity)

i suspect its been this way for a long time, witha few exceptions: Sato had a tuned Mini, and Stefan Johanssen had a 911 which he drove between races, getting a lot of respoect from Roebuck in the process.
Yeah, like hollywood actors, all have a prius so they can say they have a prius, and be seen in it. They don't tend to mention all the lambo's, fezzas etc as often.

I expect the carrera GT that daddy hamilton pranged rather famously was lewis's, oh hold on- he drives a diesel mum wagen, thats right...

Alonso certainly used to have a 722 SLR which he actually paid for himself I believe, no idea if he has still got it.
