Cheers, Steve. As ever, great advice!

That was the bike hire company I was looking at using, so it's good to see you post them as well! You're right, if I need to escape, I can. It wouldn't feel like a total loss either, since I want to go on that plane!

I reckon I'll book it up for October, once I have my plans firmed up. Hopefully be able to find accommodation during that time!

We stay here... not exactly a crap location!

I notice they now hire bikes and electric bikes: http://www.isleofbarrahotel.co.uk/car-hire/

BTW They'll pick you up from the plane - save you a few miles walk.

Funnily enough, that's the place I was looking at! And I had seen they did cars, which could work for a day or two, particularly if it's wet.

I'd want to island hop if possible, so I'd need to find a place on each of the islands, so that's a good starting point, thank you!

ETA: Just noticed they shut at the end of September, though!

As alluded to earlier I was up there a few weeks ago, I must say absolutely stunning.
Glan Coe wild camping in the MH

Isle of Skye, the one half of a day when it wasn't raining!

Big sands just west of Gairloch

Apparently this is an A road, not great fun in a 8m MH but probably good fun in a sports car, unless you meet a 8m MH!

Big sands again!

we did 25th May to 2nd June, Skye, Lewis, Glasgow and i think we somehow managed to line that up with the amazing weather. On one of the days i think Lewis was the only fully sunny place in the UK! Photos are still on the camera but it was truly awesome, Lewis particularly. What an absolutely spectacular place.

To be clear we were away for 2 weeks and was on Skye for 2 days, it rained/drizzled for 1.5 days whilst on Skye. That was the only rain we encountered, perfectly normal for Skye apparently.
Stunningly beautiful and a Brilliant place, photos really do not do it justice imho.

They are filming in Glen Torridon and causing chaos by stopping all traffic for 20 minutes at a time - all the passing places get filled up and visitors fly past and end up having to reverse hundreds of yards. It's utterly stupid. All the locals have agreed to sit on the horn when this happens, so they can't film and have to let us go. I suggest any visitors do similar.

Bloody film crews. It's light and sunny at 5 a.m.... this is when they should be filming, not when all the motorhomes are out. Snarl.

Litter infuriates me and in the years I spent fishing remote Highland lochs I was always disgusted to find the inevitable empty cans of Irn Bru and McEwans, often miles from anywhere . Some of the guys we encountered were feral - sorry to stereotype but it did seem that the further away we got from the central belt the less litter we saw and around Cape Wrath, Assynt , Altnaharra and Inverpolly we hardly saw any away from the roadside .

I was sad to see that now even Sandwood Bay isn't exempt

Not joking, got caught up in that today - getting busy, so there wasn't enough room in passing places for the people they were holding so much squeezing by on verge required and general mayhem ensued. I was on bike so so plenty room, but still stuck in queue creeping along getting my legs melted. KTM not happy at snails pace on a warm day.

Any idea what they are filming? Were a couple of cars obviously part of the set but didn't manage to identify them. Dozens of people seemed to be involved, more than the Grand Tour crew I saw a couple of months ago up Inchnadamph way.

We were at Kinlochewe last week and heard about it, the crew were taking over half the camp site from last Saturday. On the Saturday we past a fleet of what looked like hospitality units/dressing rooms towed by lorries on the A9, followed by a small fleet of custom vehicles on trailers, I remember seeing a monster truck and a rather vividly painted VW camper. I understand it's a Sky series about street racing called Curfew staring Sean Bean and one or two other well known actors.

Trying to find the name of a hotel, (maybe closed) on the A837 Lochinver to Ullapool. If memory serves me right, a large imposing building on the left side of the road, on the side a hill.
However, that was in 1974, so some recollection maybe a bit sketchy, also not far out of Lochiver, maybe under one hours drive.

Stayed there in the 80s- it was , like many other Highland hotels back then , almost comically austere . Food was dire, despite the lovely tradition of a dinner gong and mine host , Willie Morrison was it ?, was not exactly the most talkative host.

We were there to fish and , uniquely in my experience , the hotel kept all you caught . One reason why trout were for breakfast and dinner ...

Last time I went - about 99 - it had been boutiqued as our room had a trouser press, the essential adjunct to staying in Assynt ...

But I hear good things about it now . If you stay , check out the rocky cliffs behind the hotel - good spot for golden eagles

Thank you Steve, the name sounds right, just the building was more imposing, the only place I can find on Trip Advisor is, The Tongue Hotel is of a similar style. However, I remember the place being set some distance from the road
Coppice the description of Cuisine sounds spot, my parents loved it, but then all greens were boiled for 40 minutes in bicarbonate of soda in our house.
Very possible the place has been closed, possibly for a long time.
The only reason I’m asking, in the summer, I will visit my parents in the Borders (both 88 years old) and no longer able to travel long distances, so while teaching them how to use the internet, I want to show them things from their past to pique their interest.
Thank you both for your replies.
