I was in Scotland in mid May and much as I loved it the weather included - gales, torrential rain, sleet , hail and a little snow. Cloud over Pass of the Cattle - there's unusual - and bright sun in Applecross, Durness and Deeside. Not too hot either but snug and dryish in the Seven.
Yep... you can get that from time to time. Proper Highland weather. Talking of which, glad you came here in a car well suited to the roads. (I moved here partly because I bought a Seven and wanted some decent empty roads). ukkid35 said:

You moved because it meant that you could enjoy your R500 more?

Just to add further grist to the mill, we were there two weeks ago in the height of the August tourist season and it was just blissful. Outside of a short stretch around Loch Lomond which was rather clogged (not with tourists but HGVs), the roads were traffic-free.
I think the conclusion is that whichever time of year you go, you are likely to enjoy it.
I totally agree with this! To those of use who are used to living down south, even the height of August is great in the Highlands/Islands!I think the conclusion is that whichever time of year you go, you are likely to enjoy it.

I'll be holidaying on Skye next week, then staying at The Torridon Inn for 2 nights.
Look out for a white M3 (unfortunately the wife will be driving)
I'll keep an eye out. Watch out for Charlie dog... I'll be the one chasing him across the Torridon car park. (Either in Evoque, R8 or A4)Look out for a white M3 (unfortunately the wife will be driving)
Whilst you're on Skye (if you don't know it) check out http://www.kinloch-lodge.co.uk/ Food is as good as the Torridon (Michelin star) and they do fab lunches. (Need to book)

Will do. We're there Thursday (dining in the hotel)and Friday night next week. It's been a couple of years since we last stayed there so really looking forward to it.
That Friday I'll be on my way from the Trossachs up to Skye via Lochgilphead, Oban, the Leven loop and the A87. The Saturday I'll be on my way over the Applecross and up past Lochinver to Clachtoll. Can't wait, I'll be in a copper red MX-5 (looks burgundy to me but that's what Mazda call it)

Not tried there yet. We do love the Three Chimneys and will be dining there next week. Not sure how I'm going to survive a week in the passenger seat, but at least we're still going.plenty said:
Tongue to Lairg was the discovery of last month's trip. An absolutely heavenly single-track.
Was down at the pub last night catching up on your trip with one of your co-conspirators. Useless factoid. Altnaharra holds the record (jointly with Braemar for the coldest temperature ever recorded in the UK (-27.2C)
Btw - Laxford Bridge to Lairg is another of that ilk.

Here's a pic from the annual road trip I organise, earlier this year.
Please take care on this road. I would hate for another driver to have to go through what I have recently.
My moments indiscretion means I am in the passenger seat for the next four months.
Otherwise, enjoy.
Out of interest, were you injured or busted? Please take care on this road. I would hate for another driver to have to go through what I have recently.
