Whilst not really in the highlands, the Gairnsheil bridge is due to be closed for 2 weeks from Monday the 4th of Feb.

Aberdeenshire Council Facebook post said:
The Gairnshiel Bridge (A939) in Ballater will be closed from Monday, February 4 for two weeks in order to conduct bridge repair works.

Site notices will indicate the closure and the alternative route via: A939 Gairnshiel Bridge - A944 Colnabaichin, A944 - A97 Heugh-head, A97 - A93 Dinnet, A93 - B976 Crathie, B976 - A939 Garinshiel Bridge and vice versa.

Pedestrian access to be maintained whenever possible.

You can see all road closures and restrictions on our website here: http://bit.ly/roadrestrictions
Amazing roads to the north of the bridge, and often used after a good drive up the A93.

We’re heading up to the highlands on the 22nd for a week, what the conditions of the roads up there like currently?

Last year it was hit and miss, some fantastic stretches of tarmac and some truly shocking stretches

Not bad at the moment. Quite a lot of 'proper' resurfacing has gone on. It'll get a lot worse after end March mind (no EU money any more, and Westminster ain't going to fund roads here!)

heading up last week in april. Not going as far north as last year, because we have a young baby as well as the toddler this time.... basing out of lochgilphead mainly. Not sure how much road tripping will be done and in any case we may well be in the X5 instead of mine frown

If you are near Applecross, that semisubmersible drilling rig Ocean GreatWhite in Kishorn is no longer in Kishorn, if that is of any use to anyone!

Happened to find myself in Edinburgh on Tuesday. Weather was fine, so rented out a car for a short drive.

Edinburgh -> Pitlochry (actually Edradour) -> A924 (brilliant) -> B950 (brilliant) -> A93 (brilliant) -> B976 (brilliant) -> A939 (brilliant) and so was at Tomintoul. Road conditions were superb, and there was nearly no traffic at all. I had to overtake two cars and was not going slowly. Was only overtaken by one M BMW also enjoying themselves.

Then motored down north and west of the Cairngorms with views of the snowy peaks, very very nice in the sunny weather. Left the A9 for the superb unmarked road into Dalchalloch -> B847 -> Super-fun shortcut road into Tummel Bridge -> Kenmore -> Super-fun road towards Auchnacloich and and Amulree -> some roads into Dunning -> totally unmarked road leaving Dunning towards the SE into Path of Condie. All fun fun fun fun.

With a short stop for a soup supper, very solid nine hours of seat time. Lovely.

Not too difficult, even if you hadn't provided your route. smile
I'll be doing the last two on the way back from Ullapool in April.

I’m tempted by a trip, I would head up on the 26th of March for almost 2 weeks. The current weather is making me wonder if I’d be doing the right thing.

At this time of year many B&Bs and some hotels will be open and empty. I'd watch the weather and decide at the last moment. The whole thing is so much nicer with some sunshine and colour.

Well we are heading up from Manchester to Glasgow on Friday after work so that we can leisurely enjoy Loch Lommand and Glen Coe before arriving in Fort William

Will do, thank you. I’m heading to the Yorkshire Dales for 3 nights first, then if the weather looks decent I will head to the Highlands.

Out yesterday but not far as it was first day
Up to Malliag and then back around on the A861 to the ferry. Roads were very quiet.

Heading up to Kyleshu today so hoping the roads are similar to yesterday.

Some great tarmac tester in places and some shocking tarmac as well !

I have been given permission to take the VX220 up there for 4 days from the Midlands. Its going to be a big trip. I want to get to the every North Coast and I want to climb Suliven Mountain, so really only 3.5 days driving. Thinking of leaving super early on a Thursday and getting as far as I can by night fall. Then Friday Saturday explore and Sunday head back. Get up really early on Monday morning to get back to do some "work from Home" on Monday. Yes that sort of makes it a 5 day trip....but I've only got 4 days , so its 4 days ok!
