Having had to cancel our trip in May we're now thinking of late March / early April next year. Instead of staying in B&Bs around the NC500 we think we'll self-cater at a single base and explore from there.
Suggestions where to base ourselves welcome. Garve was previously mentioned but local knowledge may result in somewhere better. We shall be in our '63 Riley so not looking to cover vast distances each day.
We’re in Portskerra/Melvich so it’s probably not ideal as it’s right on the edge of the good stuff. The Halladale Inn do Pods for hire just down the road but I’d be looking around Kinlochbervie if I were you. It’s not too far from Assynt and Ullapool, Kylesku is just down the road. The latter is a PITA. Much better to leave behind in the house all the stuff you don't actually need and travel light.
That said, you can end up doing more miles than by moving on each day to the next nightly stop on a tour of the NC500. .
For a single base (meaning out-and-back daily excursions), Kinlochbervie is much too far north imo.
Ullapool is my preference. Handy for shops if needed for self-catering with a petrol station* to hand when the tank needs replenishing.
Second choice would be Lochinver.
* It does super unleaded which is handy as my chariot gets stroppy if fed a diet of 95RON!
We had a look at self catering in that area last night and have found a cottage that suits our budget and needs (close to shops and takeaways) so fingers crossed my O/H can get leave and it's still vacant - hopefully we'll know within a day or two and can book.

A bit of a farce.... they turned up here and were filmed walking into the hotel, but didn't stay. They just wanted to look like they were staying here!Pooh said:
I have a cottage booked in Applecross for the 16th and 17th of this month.
Hopefully the weather will be good, we will have a good drive over the pass and manage to fit in some waking and kayaking.
I am very much looking forward to it and we have not been up there for a few years.
Long range looks okay. This is the forecasting service most of the local fishermen use: https://xcweather.co.uk/forecast/applecrossHopefully the weather will be good, we will have a good drive over the pass and manage to fit in some waking and kayaking.

Where are you seeing this? I have not seen anything about a travel ban.we hav isolated for weeks to make sure we havent come into contact with anybody so we could have a break
all we've done is work from home none stop
the plan was to collect a click and collect from Morrisons and not actually come into contact with anybody just drive and sight see
and if that gets cancelled I might got postal on the idiots who have just not done anything and partied on like nothing is wrong
