Just popped up on BBC Scotland page.
No sign of it. A link or the explanation would be good.
Google Street View 2011.

Pic of the same location three years later.
The diamond shape signs are much better and more distinctive than the square ones imo.

Always bugged me why. When i googled the reason your pic was the 1st one to pop up
https://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php...
Apparently the two different signs are because....
The diamond shaped ones (old) are/where used by tram drivers.
So they started using square (new) ones.
How that helps on a singletrack road in the Highlands I have no idea.
Oh and i prefer the diamond shape aswell.
Like i said its a slow day
Your link comes up with an Alamy stock pic of the square one attached to an article about coronavirus in Shetland. Nothing about the two types of sign.
The curious thing about the pic I posted is why the diamond version of the sign appears 3 years after the square one. No logic to it if the former is the earlier version.
2020 was the first time in 12 years I haven't done a trip to the Highlands.
In all the others I really struggled to avoid those pesky trams...

Yes it was that article/ pic that finally made me question the difference. Been visiting Highlands for nigh on 40 years (friends/ family) and only noticed the signs last few years.
Just bugged me.
We luckily got up there twice last year. After lockdown 1,Never seen it as busy! and before lockdown 2.
Wont hold my breath this year
Ah just noticed on your pic the square sign was first. Really need to put my glasses on

Normally I can figure out which road features in your shots, but this one has me stumped.
Please put me out of my misery.
It's approaching Cuiag, having come from the fuel pump at Applecross and heading back to Shieldaig. The big hill is Beinn Alligin... but not often viewed from that angle. Please put me out of my misery.

My less than stellar example. The cattle are a fair old distance from the Bealach na Bà!

That made me laugh... Spot on perfect for Mr Carter's previous image. You must know the highlands extremely well by now - or you have too much time on your hands. And all from Dartford too IIRC.I'm only envious and am yearning to get back up there when easing occurs. Trouble is, as others have mentioned, it's likely to be rammed. That dispels much of the beauty of the place.

I, like many other I suspect, am chatting with a group of friends about heading up in Sept/Oct. The hope is that we'll have beaten the staycationers, and the weather-gambling will work in our favour.

And what a wonderful road that is too.

Sept/Oct are dryer than July/August in the NW. It'll still be busy though as most of England seemed to arrive after the last lockdown. Never known anything like it.I, like many other I suspect, am chatting with a group of friends about heading up in Sept/Oct.
