Completely empty roads here at the moment... and the best light - as long as you drive between 05:00 and 08:00.
Busy after 10:00

IIRC the Gulf station just over the bridge (Kyle of Lochalsh) has a super pump...
It does, definitely tho as mentioned above, fuel is cheaper on Skye. I discovered this to my cost on Friday when it was £1.59 per litre for 95 in Broadford but too late realised it was £1.79 in Kyle. That said, in a car averaging 60 mpg it wasn't too much of a hit.
Currently(24/4) 156.9 in Portree for standard u/l, and cheapest in Harris yesterday 162.9
I've only occasionally scanned through this thread, but with a trip in Scotland coming up soon, I'll be looking to make a route starting from Glasgow (I know, not the highlands!), and heading up to the highlands, mostly keeping to the west. Will be looking for some campsites, and general route ideas for just over a week. Are there any useful resources for this, or any route itineries/ must do roads that you can recommend? It's just me and the OH, fairly active walkers so would be good to stop off for some decent hikes along the way.

Spend a couple of nights in/around Torridon, plenty to see and some Munros to climb.Mark Asread said:
Excellent website, caters for people of all abilities not just those who cover themselves in glue & run through an outdoor shop. Came in very handy on my recent trip to Skye.RapidRob said:

The campsite here has been completely redone and is now pretty swish. Well worth a stop if you're here (Shieldaig, Torridon).https://www.shieldaigcampingandcabins.co.uk

The Cuillins are superb, spent two days climbing last year. stayed at the Sligachan Hotel and walked from there.Just a heads up... the Bealach bike race is happening this Saturday (7th May), which means the road from Tornapress to Applecross (the Bealach na Ba) will be closed for several hours (usually from 11 am). Also, the 45 mile single track Shieldaig Loop to Applecross will be full of bikes.... usually about 200+

What a stunning weekend that was. Drove through the last of the rain on Friday approaching Ullapool and got a bit of a soaking, but everything was dried out again by the sunshine by the time I reached Lochinver. Woke up to warm sun on Saturday, and by Saturday PM I was properly sunburned!
No midgies. Traffic was definitely heavier for May than previous years, but still not enough to ruin the driving.
