I wish I could just teleport myself and the bike up there. 9-10 hours to Inverness makes weekend trips unviable.

That's one of the benefits of being retired!

I live in Surrey so getting there will be quite a trek, but I have a 5 day trip around the NC500 planned for October. biggrin

Drove up the A838 yesterday from Lairg to Laxford bridge. An extraordinary road I've somehow missed on every previous trip.

Someone had a less good day just East of Laxford bridge though. A small car was on it's roof guarded by a bored looking copper.

The A835 Inverness - Ullapool should be available on the NHS as a cure for depression.

"Here's a script, Mr. Rooster - take a large motorcycle along this road and do it in reverse tomorrow. Sorry that you've been suffering from neverending damp and misery; you'll feel better by tomorrow night"

Fantastic road - big, sweeping corners, brilliant sight-lines, hardly any junctions or field entrances and a surface with absolutely mental levels of grip even in the wet. cloud9

Be aware it has been known to be addictive. Side effects can cause the sufferer to be obsessed with vanishing points and become paranoid about sheep.

Oh I know - one of the first photographs I took with my own camera was the Commando Memorial in 1959...there's not many roads that I haven't explored in the years since then. smile

I know the feeling!

I'm not going back to Scotland until May, and won't be in the Highlands until October. frown

Checks smugly into the thread while parked up in the Trossachs for the night. Currently the aurora and stars are out, it's -2 and I can't hear a sound...

Hi Folks - question for all (perhaps mainly Mr Carter!)

Staying at Ben Damph estate (Shieldaig/Torridon area) in April and was wondering what the best options are for the food shop. Most likely going to do a big shop in Inverness on the way up.

Do Tesco do delivery to the area? Looks to be a few local shop options.

Torridon Stores or Shieldaig Stores have everything you need for a week - but don't expect every brand or choice.
