(I live in Torridon so notice decent cars!)Moving up is great, if you don't have kids (need schools), don't like shopping, and can work remotely on 6mb broadband!
What you get is cheap housing, no crime, empty roads, the air, the wildlife, the views and a bunch of very friendly Highlanders!
Leaving on Saturday to do basically Oban, Luib, Ullapool, Durness along to Tongue, down to Lairg then Pitlochry and home. Staying mostly B&Bs, all booked.
Great, but I have just watched the weather forecast and looked a couple of sites. 😱
Didn't expect minus temps in late April.

Just got back myself on Monday and I loved every minute of it. 1,700 miles in 5 days. Beautiful roads and scenery. This is the first of many trips to the highlands.
got to say that's probably the perfect car to do it in too. If there was just one week a year, and one place where you got the top down, then that would make it all worth it. Blown2CV said:

I certainly had that thought a few time. I've done west coast USA, Europe, OZ, NZ and the Highlands are right up there with the best. coppice said:
The perfect car is something smaller - like my Seven . It loves the Highlands but moans and strops when it rains . so yes, Mercs have their place ...
Agree, once you are in the highlands but the Merc does well getting from London to the highlands and back and keeping SWMBO happy. robbo 2006 said:
Heading north this Thursday- planned route from Chalfont to Balfron, then up to Fort Augustus, Skye, the Lecht, Rothienorman, Lenzie, then home. Should be fun!
Lecht is expecting 1-2ft of snowfall this week, so don't be surprised if some roads are closed or difficult to pass around that area. This is useful for keeping an eye on the snow (and access roads to the ski areas) - http://winterhighland.com/general/
