Pretty much anything west of Salisbury. Or, go over the Severn bridge and turn right.

NE from Abridge, exit the first junction on M11 from North circular inside M25. Give me a shout if you want to head out together as it is very easy to get there from the City / Tower Bridge.

The A355 running north from slough is fun when you dont have time to go too far away

Don't believe him - the roads are much better in Wales - phew! I think we dodged that bullet.

do you have a Google maps recommended route for this by any chance? i live near Tower Bridge and want to take my new motor out this weekend for a blast so this could be ideal if you say it's easy to get to. I don't know Essex very well at all...

Heading out from London on Sunday 28th June if anyone is keen to join, thinking of doing the road out of Bedford, open to suggestions.

No map but....

Take the Loughton exit off the M11 Northbound then turn right
At the roundabout, take 1st exit onto A113
Stay on the A113 through Abridge and Ongar. The bit between Abridge and Ongar is great.
At the A414 roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the B184 through Dunmow, Thaxted to Saffron Waldon
After that you can keep going north (Cambridge), east (deepest Essex) or west (B660 etc).
Or you can go back the way you came or head back on the M11

Take the A1 north to Welwyn, then follow the B656 through Codicote and onto Hitchin. Take the first exit at the rbout onto the A602 then the same at the next rbout onto the A505 then immediately bear right at the next rbout onto the B655 towards Barton-le-Clay. Go through Barton and head on the A6 north, then right at the rbout onto the A507 follow that all the way across the A1, through Baldock and onto Buntingford. (This is the best bit biggrin). Then do that road again back towards the A1. Turn around at the rbout just before Buntingford.

My 5am Sunday commute from SW18 to W2 is a hoot. My own personal racetrack.

It is littered with those idiot cab drivers in Priuses tho.

Treat them as back markers about to get lapped.

When you get to the A14 carry on north up the B660 to Weston, Great Gidding and Glaston. Do a u-turn and come back!!
This has been used by 'Evo' for testing and pictures.
One of my favourite local roads, open, fast and with good gradient changes

Thanks for the suggestions, definitely going to give the route to buntingford a go, I'll let you know how it goes.

It's always more fun with a few cars so if anyone wants to join let me know.

Apologies for the late reply - been away on honeymoon.

When you get to Great Dunmow, you can also head NE towards Finchingfield too. Also a great road.
