Hi all

I've got my name down for this beast of a car. Reading the press articles I personally think there will be big demand for this model & my Mercedes dealer has a good few orders already.

Anyone else pre ordered one & what are your thoughts on it so far?

I am on the list since last autumn, was after a weekend/track day toy and thought this was a more exciting option than a GT3. The GT R certainly deserves a loud colour but wasn't convinced by the matte green... hopefully they take inspiration from the G63 colour editions. I love the adjustability and should be a good indicator to its potential on track.

What are your thoughts on pricing?

Not currently that excited if I'm honest. Good looking car but I'm not sure its going to go as good as it looks.

I am on the list but will look at one properly first and see how different it will be from the GTS. Would want to know that the steering is a lot heavier as it is so light in my GTS.

Not sure if I will put mine on a track but looking forward to it nevertheless.

My dealer said they think the launch edition model that will have the loud colours will be AFTER the standard GTR model which will be annoying as that will put me a quandary....... get the standard model quicker or wait for the more expensive/ more exclusive edition model.

Did I hear this is likely to start at about £130,000? More for the edition model?

Re colours, I like loud but not if it's going to be £12,000+ Would you pay that CitySlicker?

I would like to know 1st year allocation to the UK before paying my cash. I noticed the GTS start dropping in price at 9 months then bigger drops at 11-12 months. I think I'd bail out of mine before 9 months.

If what your dealer says is true I think it's rather ridiculous. Latest rumour contradicting Moer's original production statement is that it will be limited to just 2,000 units worldwide. If that's the case I couldn't imagine any further evolution within the GT R as it'll become too fragmented. Regardless, I wouldn't entertain £12k for exclusive paint...

+1 heavier steering!!

Agreed if he's right, it is ridiculous CitySlicker.

Your update is good news then if it's now going to be limited!

Yes let's hope it's a cracking car....... smile

The crazy colour editions of the G63 are over £16,000 more than the list price of the G63.

Just saw something(dealer email) today saying 150 coming to the UK. I'm interested to see what prices do once their released. I doubt they will be flippable unless reviews are reallllly good,

If 150 are coming to the UK what do you think the prices will do?

Thanks for that useful info effiefara. I've not heard this yet from my dealer. Lazy sods lol.

I expect the car to attract a good premium for the 1st 6+ months.

My dealer had 9 deposits when I checked 5 months ago & I'd expect Mercedes to probably limit production of those 150 cars over a period of 12+ months. Not in their interest to flood the market. Could be wrong though.

Anyone else's thoughts on this would be much appreciated? If the value drops quickly, I'd probably cancel mine.......

Which dealer have you placed your order with? There is a lot of speculation about the production run for this car. It seems more likely GTR numbers will be limited as cabrio models will absorb the majority of capacity; whether it's 150 cars to the UK I think is anyone's guess at this moment. MB are very protective about how information is released so I wouldn't take your dealers email as gospel; would be nice though...

If you think about it like this, IF there are only 150 coming to the UK over two years that equates to 12.5/month, call it 40 a quarter, that is very limited supply. My dealership has 30+ names down as of last month!! That alone should keep prices strong, and provided the arse doesn't fall out of the car market prices should be very strong. Given this my only concern is retail pricing, I expect 150 which would include a couple of options, 160 for desirable spec. If they price much higher it starts to complete with some very serious and exotic machinery and I would reconsider my position.

Regardless the AMG GTS is already a "reallllly" good car and the GTR will be an exceptional variant especially if they hit their lap time targets - 7:15 for the ring which is truly epic.

If there's one thing you can guarantee, it's that Mercedes will build too many. If I get one, I'm not going to keep it longer than a month. I recently lost £35k on a GTS which I hardly used.

Ouch!

Did you manage to negotiate any sort of discount when buying the GTS?

The email wasn't to me, it was on someones social media but is gone now. If you pester your dealer they may confirm/deny the 150 number. Not sure which dealer it was from. It's good to hear that dealers have lots of deposits down, surely only a good thing for residuals.

Wow that's a big drop on the GTS!

That model seemed to easily hold its value/ attract a small premium for 6+ months. At 12 months prices started coming down from over list to protect b list & now 15-18 months later the values have dropped a lot more.

Fingers crossed for a limited run on the GT-R

Last time I spoke to my dealer they had 2 names down, me and one other.

Nervous about taking this one on to be honest. I've had the Dealer Order Guide from the US guys and the spec doesn't look very interesting, I was hoping for options on roll hoop, harnesses etc but nothing, surprising because MB claimed they expected most buyers to use them on track.

GTC also kind of ruins it since it has a lot of the enhancements that are on the GTR.

No unfortunately. It was more of a case of being very lucky to get hold of one of the very first customer cars with only waiting two weeks from order. I managed to get one which had apparently been ordered by Jeremy Clarkson which he cancelled at the last minute as it was the time when he left BBC and was getting hounded wherever he went.

Apparently now there are loads more coming off short term VIP leases which will make them drop even more. The market for these cars is so limited.

I was under the impression that residuals are pretty strong...

How come you sold the GTS?

I have only had a short demo in the GTS and I liked the car a lot. The only thing which annoyed me a tad was the light steering.

Can you share the spec!?

Agree on the GTC taking some of the thunder away. It would be useful to know the price point on the GTC.
