The BBC annual report to be published at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday July 19th will reveal the earnings of TV stars who are paid £150,000 or more.

Personally I can't wait. I have long suspected many performers are grossly overpaid. Now we will see.

Looks like Evans and Lineker will top the list at £2m+. Personally I don't see what the latter does that say Mark Chapman who presents MOTD2 can't do. People watch MOTD, international matches etc for the actual football not the presenters.

Anyway it looks like they've already found a loophole for next year.

"However, some major names such as Graham Norton and Mary Berry will escape the list because presenters employed via a third-party production company will not have their pay disclosed.

The BBC will be able to keep the pay of dozens of its top TV stars a secret in future years because it has spun off its production arm, BBC Studios, as a commercial company subject to the same loophole.

This will be of limited help to the BBC this year when most of its on-screen talent will face the full glare of public scrutiny."

I wonder if they'll also publish how they are paid so we can compare who is hypocritical compared to their political opinions.

PAYE?
Through their own company?
Through an offshore company?

OK so this might be how much they get paid, what about how much they bring in?

Alex Lester got the chop from his early morning show on Radio 2 because they wanted to save money due to a shrinking budget. Be interesting what the pay that tt Evans?

Has anyone sounded more deluded than the agents or whoever else is defending the status quo on the radio this morning? I particularly enjoyed the chap saying he'd done the negotiations on the very expensive deal that brought Morecambe and Wise to the BBC from ITV.

So why exactly throw a fortune at Morecambe and Wise if I could have watched them on ITV anyway?

It will be the gap between the Male presenters and the female that will be the headlines. Why should a Male newsreader be paid more than a female one ?

Hard to defend that.

I think I remember it being reported that Sophie Raworth gets about £150k a year, dunno why I remembered that or where I heard it but there you go, odd what the brain recalls at times!

Personally I don't have an issue with what individual stars are paid. Don't see the problem, talent needs reward.

I don't care if Lineker gets £2 or £2m - its irrelevant

In normal circumstances yes but people will obviously want to know as its the BBC which is taxpayer funded.

The funding source is not particularly relevant imo, talent is a market & there's a few free market adherents expressing a dislike for a free market because BBC. As noted, the gender gap will be the more interesting angle if it turns out George Alagiah is on twice Sophie Raworth's salary for doing the same job.

I recall a BBC news 24 presenter let slip her salary a couple of years ago & it was around 120k. I expect the range we'll see is 100-200k for the top team.

£150,000.00 a year for reading an autocue and putting on a bit of slap?

I don't think most people give a toss over who "presents" the news.

Get someone else in for a fraction of the cost. Maybe put the post out to competitive tendering?

Are you saying that we should all know exactly how much everybody who works in the public sector earns? Just because some people want to know, doesn't mean the information should be made available. At it's most basic level, peoples earnings should be a private matter between the individual and the employer.

For me personally, I rather enjoy the BBC, I rather appreciate the quality of some of their programs, programs which need top talent to produce and we all know that top talent cost money. I enjoy the Chris Evans breakfast show and don't really care how much he's managed to negotiate for himself and his team, just like I wouldn't object to David Attenborough earning a healthy crust either.

It's nothing but voyeurism driven by envy.
