Just got back from driving the above (hilariously named) route in the Peak District. Unfortunately about 50% of the drive was ruined by cretins but when you have a clear road, they are absolutely sublime. The scenery is breathtaking in some spots.
Plenty of switchback hairpins. One of which crept up on me. I went in too fast, mid down shift, thinking Ive finally done it, this will be far too much for the car to handle. It wasnt balanced, it wasnt controlled and I just threw the wheel round. However, despite my complete and utter lack of skill, the car clung to the road like it was on rails.
Ill definetly go again, but need to work out a time when it is much much quieter.
Also combined it with a little trip to Blue John Cavern in Castledale. Well worth a trip.

I live about 15mins from it. As you say, great roads when they're quiet, but early morning is a must otherwise you'll get frustrated behind streams of traffic. I usually set off around 6am on a Sunday, and I'm back enjoying a full English before all the 40mph brigade are out in force. Not sure which way around you did, but I prefer anticlockwise as you can really attack the hillclimbs up to Holme Moss and the summit of the Snake Pass driving

That’s a beautiful part of the world to call home! I’m in Cheshire so I think a little RS camping trip is in order to get to the wonderful roads. I went clockwise from Castleton. No particular reason I went that way, so will try the other way next time!
