Hello everyone,

I have booked a hotel in Monaco from the 24th to 26th (2 nights) this month travelling by car via the Eurotunnel. Whilst we don't want to take the ultimate quickest route and miss the beautiful scenery, I'd love to know from people with experience of doing this trip what the best route would be as ideally including a stopover, i'd be looking at a total time of 24hrs. Also to note, I will be taking an e60 M5, so range is a bit of a concern for me and I have no idea about petrol/service station intervals.

Many thanks in advance smile

I know it might cost a lot in tolls through France, you can work that out using the Michelin maps .

I used the French toll roads when I did the same journey last year and there was a petrol/service station every 45 minutes at least in my experience. I use to fill my car up when it got to 1/4 of a tank or whenever we stopped to stretch our legs.

Good choice with the E60 M5 for the long distance trip, having owned one myself I know you'll be making a lot more stops than I did.

I also initially started to go down the Route Napoleon and then decided not too continue with my journey that way about an hour in. Wish I didn't bother to start with as it was a nightmare getting myself onto a motorway again. I still want to do Route Napoleon but will allow myself atleast 2 days to travel from Dijon to Monaco next time so I can enjoy it properly.

Speaking of Dijon, my wife and I did an overnight stop there too, broke the journey up abit.

I did the route napoleon about a month ago. The scenery was nice but there's far better roads and views to be had elsewhere in South West France. Even on a weekday traffic was such that you could never really enjoy the road or string a long section together.
I was dissapointed and wish I'd spent the time elsewhere then made up the difference on the autoroutes.
