I'd be careful going down the Northbound stretch of A217 on the 'mad mile'.

I went down last night whilst going a bit fast and I noticed a camera van parked on the other side of the road pointing towards oncoming traffic. I've no idea if it's speed related or worker safety / CCTV / enforcing site speed limits but I've now got the dreaded 14 day wait.

Here's a screen grab from dash cam on a later pass to see exactly what it was. Parked up in L1, Highways Agency logos on the side with speed logos above the windows on the rear doors. Windows shut.

I know they've had other 'camera' vans in the works area whilst this has been going on. I posted a photo up before whilst they were up near Romans

There's an Astra parked by the A217 with both NS tyres flat no doubt a victim of the HUGE potholes.
They really are unacceptably big.

Are you going to get a ticket considering the van is in the (I think) 20mph roadworks zone and you are doing 29mph? hehe

I heard a noise so went out to look.....nerd

"They" are patching the potholes on the southbound carriageway ,yes they probably won't last long but it's better

than nothing.

southbound currently closed up here I guess.

I saw the crater by the bus stop just past Romans today. It was incredibly deep. I was all over the road trying to avoid them. Almost impossible.

I lived in Sutton twice some years ago, but have always had (and still have) family over that way.

Looks like the "Mad Mile" is now the "Sad Mile". eek

Whoever is filling the potholes near the Old council building and along from Romans on the southbound carriageway needs to go to Specsavers, because they have clearly missed a few!

In pothole carnage news ,I went out tonight on foot, for an hour and there was not 1 but 2 newish Fiestas stopped within 100 yards of each other with blown NSF tyres, due to the appalling craters between the BP and Chipstead road turning, southbound.

I recommend keeping to the 20 limit in order to be able to take evasive action at short notice .
Or take a different road altogether.

It's not just the A217 now. I started driving up past the prison and just as you're approaching the NSL signs on Belmont end there's a procession of HUGE holes. In fact driving to Epsom Downs this morning was bone shaking. I got home and was happy to be parking the car up knowing I couldn't blow any tyres or suspension bits by driving it.

Yes,I walk past there too.
The holes have been filled, possibly more than once this winter and it just gets all pulled out again, just like the 217.
The mad mile is nice n smooth, didn't think there was much wrong with it prior to it being resurfaced.

Heads up, I saw the skandia? people working on the camera system yesterday. They've replaced the cameras that were removed, so it looks like it'll go live in the near future..

Murphy have finally finished messing with the pipeline and have filled the hole in the road and smoothed the surface at the Chipstead road junction, meaning we will have all lanes open again soon.
About time !

Cameras haven't stopped the bikers though. Saw them the other night with no number plates and can hear them going up and down now.

So now they need highways to resurface both lanes completely from Lower Kingswood to the mad mile (which is actually a 1/3rd of a mile) the surface around the roundabout at Lower Kingswood resembles the moon surface!

Mad mile is more than 1/3 mile ,I measured it once ,using the accurate to not a lot speedo/ odometer at 9/10 mile.

another question I have is ....When is the new ,constructed at great expense ,pedestrian crossing at Burgh

Wood junction finally going to be opened .?

And when are the lights going to be installed ?...the main structure of the crossing has been completed for months.

I don't think there are going to be any lights.
