Have to agree with Captain Chaos, how the hell this is called motoring progress is beyond me
Well, perhaps I agree with posters various, but how the hell this is called a scam is beyond me!These people sit around desks and work out schemes on how to raise revenue. It seems to me these people can do what they like when it comes to roads and there is not one group who stand up against it!

An illegal trick etc.
So. Daft it may be. Scam it ain't.

http://www.abd.org.uk/To quote from their front page:
"The ABD calls for the use of sensible speed limits that are based upon well established scientific road safety principles, not political correctness, emotive hysteria, or vociferous local activists."
Interesting to note that local activists were consulted when setting the A217 speed limit.
So, does anybody know if the Average Speed cameras have been set to register vehicles travelling over 20mph for that part of the roadworks or are they still set at 40mph?
I noticed this morning coming in that just in front of the flashing 20mph sign there is a new sign saying 'CCTV in Operation' which is making me fear the worst - I have been going through that part at a sensible 30mph as 20mph is just ridiculously slow, and causes no end of stress with people driving up your backside and flashing etc.
I wouldn't mind if the guys were working but at the time I go through (just after 6am) there is not a roadworker to be seen!

I honestly don't know? I too have been driving through part of it coming out of tattenham way and driving up to Romans to turn right into Garratts Lane, I have been deliberately driving at a blistering 19 miles an hour, frustration from other drivers is evident, with many drivers undertaking me, even the Old ladies (who never speed) I noticed this morning coming in that just in front of the flashing 20mph sign there is a new sign saying 'CCTV in Operation' which is making me fear the worst - I have been going through that part at a sensible 30mph as 20mph is just ridiculously slow, and causes no end of stress with people driving up your backside and flashing etc.

It really is a bloody joke!
I noticed that if you look at the A217 on roadworks.org? That they’re planning to remove the old Gatsos over the next week or so.
According to the article I posted last week cameras should be going live at the start of November.
I also saw on Surrey Police Snapchat a few nights ago they were driving down the A217 back to redhill and we’re at 38 on the Speedo.
I personally wouldn’t risk it now that they could be live.
The crossing they’re building will be going until Jan 2018 so best get used to the low speeds and shut lanes.

London to Brighton veteran car run runs through here tomorrow, best avoid if you don't want to follow the old crocks at bairly more than walking pace.
I might get my folding chair out and watch them.
I might come join you!!I might get my folding chair out and watch them.
Drove through this today with no prior knowledge they were there.
My thoughts are they are not yet live .... Reasons
1 the old gatso's are still in place, I know there are guidelines stating both systems can't be in place at the same time.
2 It's a mess, in one stretch of road you have. 40 & 20 mph limits in place, and in the same location 30mph to 40 mph in the opposite direction.
3 In some locations ( in the 20's) the Average Speed Camera signs are hidden by the roadworks and in the 30's by shrubbery.
4) There has been no declaration that they are live, only a prediction, they may be though common sense clearly would be not to abuse the limits.
5) The cameras have to be calibrated and authenticated, since in the restricted speed limit areas this would be impossible as the near side cameras cover only the roadworks which are not a live lane.
6) it would make no sense to turn on the system given the variability of the speed limits, in the ongoing road works. The speed limits would have to change at the point of the set cameras, they don't as afar as I can see. Granted some of the lower limits are entirely in these.
I could be wrong but given the above I feel it's unlikely , however they will be once the roadworks and Gatso's have gone.

Local cabbie tells me there is a problem with midnight - 2am boy racers starting out at McD's (Tesco) in Sutton and racing to the M25 and back with no plates on, not sure how true this is..
The road works are a complete pain, I'm in Tadworth and the road traffic around the downs is X5 at the moment due to people taking Epsom lane south as a cut through to miss the congestion, be glad when its finished.

Not sure about the tesco to M25 races but on Friday night at about 11.45PM I was in bed trying to sleep with the window open. All I could hear was what sounded like an old sixth gen honda civic bouncing off the limiter every few minutes followed by hard acceleration, then quiet then it would come back. It did this for about half hour before it went silent and didn't come back. Not sure if he was going up and down the mad mile but it was very annoying! You hear similar cretins in the chipstead kingswood valley late at night.. Its the usual baseball cap wearing brigade with the numberplates placed on the dash. No doubt to terrorise people as their numberplates cant be seen, but when pulled by the plod, will probably say it is to improve necessary air intake to the stupidly oversized supercharger or such like bullst
