The Amalfi coast
Discussion
Try Paestum - an extraordinary and lightly visited gem well south of Amalfi . I saw the estimable Andrew Graham Dixon doing a feaure on Paestum and knew we had to go . It is a Greek Temple site - huge and dominating the whole town(actually a large village ) built by the Greeks when the place was on the coast. Unlike most historic sites, you can go where the hell you want and at dusk it is mesmerising.
Not very touristy at all ,very cheap and super hotel and food
My wife is the historian of the family but I was utterly bowled over by the place - and I enjoyed it nearly as much as my pilgrimages to Maranello ...
